Low 3DMark Fire Strike score but good Time Spy score? RX 7800 XT

Hi, I have been testing out my new Gigabyte OC 7800 XT and tried doing some 3DMark benchmarks. My score on Fire Strike is really bad, but I get an average score on Time Spy. Does anyone know what is going on? All my drivers are updated. Only thing I did not update is my BIOS. Resizable BAR and EXPO are on. My specs are as follows:

 

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 4.5 GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler

Yeah, my games have been playing fine (mainly Cyberpunk 2077). Guess I am just paranoid about something being wrong with my card since this is my first build

Have you tried Cyberpunk's built in benchmark test? There might be 7700x + 7800 XT PCs on youtube that benchmarked Cyberpunk too

Do update the bios. Check if you've installed the latest chipset drivers from AMD. Check if your SSD-s have the latest firmware on them.

Yes, average FPS seems to be a bit lower than some of the other tests I have compared to. But it is around a difference of 5 FPS or less.

Thanks, I followed your advice. Unfortunately, I got an even lower score on Fire Strike. I am not sure why this is happening but I've spent so long trying to fix the issue that I kind of want to just ignore it and play my games haha

Is PBO off? Benchmarks might have PBO on.

Do you have some overlay running?

 

Can you run Intel Presentmon to see what's holding the system back in Firestrike?

 

Do you have nvidia physx installed?

No, I do not have any overlays on when I run the in-game benchmark. I will look into Intel Presentmon. I don’t know what Nvidia physx is. This is a brand new system though so there weren’t any drivers that I did not install myself

PhysX helps with 3DMark scores, at least with the DX10 and DX11 benchmarks.

Also, PhysX can run on the CPU. MadOnion/Futuremark/UL used the PhysX libraries since nVidia was a sponsor.

Isn't PhysX something so basic that should install With Windows essentially?

No. It installs with Nvidia drivers or as a separate tool. Even Driver Booster has the option to install is just like Visual C and Net framework.

I thought it was technically out of spec. so it would void your warranty but as the below commenter said apparently it does not:

Here is what I did:

1. Downloaded PresentMon
2. Installed PhysX
3. Restarted computer and turned on PBO in BIOS

I noticed in PresentMon that my frames were not able to go higher than 140 fps or so and realized that I had Radeon Chill on. So I turned that off as well. After all this, I ran the benchmark again a few times. PresentMon had my GPU utilization at high 90's% for most of the time, so I guess that is what is holding it back. This is the latest run and it is in line with the other runs I did with these changes:

These observations were made using score explorer searching for my CPU + GPU combo and the numbers from my latest run:

My physics and combined score are not that far from the average (less than 1000 score difference for both).

My graphics score was 36898. This was better than my previous highest score by 3500 or so, but the average is 50635.

Hey, sorry I took a while to get back to you. I kind of just gave up on tinkering with it for a few weeks over the holidays.

 

I had my global experience on the "quality" preset so I changed it to "default". Then I reset the 3dmark profile. I am very happy to say that my Time Spy score is in line with the average now :

 

 

Thank you very much for your help! I guess something in my Adrenalin settings was dropping my graphics score.
