Hello there,

I've set up my 14900k workstation again after I've waited out the microcode updates. I'm using Asus' Z790 Proart Creator WiFi motherboard.

When I installed the drivers, I was under the impression that Intel's Driver & Support Assistant would give me the newest chipset drivers but the only thing it did was to update my WiFi and Bluetooth drivers (quite a pointless tool tbh).

After that, I downloaded the remaining driver's from Asus' motherboard support page and installed them individually (except WiFi and Bluetooth).

Is it okay to have downloaded the WiFi and Bluetooth drivers from the Driver & Support Assistant first? Or should I do a clean Windows install again just with the Asus drivers?

So now I have basically a combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers from Intel and the rest from Asus' motherboard driver page (chipset etc).

Oddly enough, the Thunderbolt driver won't install, it says the operating system isn't supported.

Also, is the Intel DSA safe or is it dangerous bloatware that might impact my computer's performance and possibly spy on me?

What should I do?

Can I run my PC like that or should I set it up anew?

I obviously avoided Armoury Crate from Asus.

Everything is fine, ideally you would get all the drivers from Intel directly but the WiFi/Bluetooth being direct and the rest of ASUS makes no real difference.  They are the same drivers, its just direct from Intel is often newer and continue to be updated when the motherboard manufacturer may have stopped bothering.

ASUS B650E-F GAMING WIFI + R7 7800X3D + 2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30-36-36-76  + ASUS RTX 4090 TUF Gaming OC

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) Backup: GL.iNet GL-X3000/ Spitz AX Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz) WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz)
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~1200Mbit down, 115Mbit up, variable)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

Thanks for the quick response.

What about the DSA tool, is it fine or bloatware that might impact my computer's performance in the future like Armoury Crate / possible spy on my data?

Don't know whether that tool will spy on you or not, but in general tools that update drivers for you are unnecessary. Other than your GPU driver, you don't really need regular driver updates, provided everything is working. Otherwise, you can always check for newer versions yourself.

Intel DSA is useful as Windows Update has been known to break WiFi drivers.
