I recently bought Starship Troopers Extermination, but didn't know it had EAC (Easy Anti Cheat), which I've heard is a root kit (kernel level access). After seeing the EAC splash screen, i uninstalled the game, but is EAC Still on my PC? I was using proton if that makes a difference.

Also I saw some Epic launcher progress bar screen aswell, not like a full app, more like a tool tip window, do i need to worry about that being on my machine?

This means that EAC is confined to the prefix assigned to "Starship Troopers Extermination".

EAC was "fixed to work with proton in linux" around early 2022, if the studio used the "fixed" version of the EAC SDK for your game it should "just werk".

Oh you didn't understand proton fully.

It is not installed on your linux because proton launches with their own kernel level in order to simulate the game like windows.

Or at least that's how I've understood.

Otherwise it couldn't run on linux since it's not native for most game devs that's too much of work.

If you have issues with those anti cheat games i would suggest to buy console instead that way you'll only use it for games then turn off when you're done.

I'm jank tinkerer if it works then it works.

Regardless of compatibility 🐧🖖

Thanks for the replies. I did think of it being 'continerised' because of proton, but then i thought that anti cheats didnt work if they found they werent running in the way i imagine is intended, and it did seem to at least launch properly. Idk about in game as as soon as the saw the easy anti cheat splash screen i just quit the game and refunded it. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Would you happen to know about the epic games launcher thing i mentioned?

EpicGames launcher not supported on linux.

To launch epic games use Steam, Heroic Launcher (or Lutris).

Ah ok. I was asking because the epic games launcher thing, like a tool tip progress bar, showed before the game fully launched (but after i pressed the play button), but i guess that is the same as EAC and just in that proton instance

Sort of yes and if you do want play games that has anti cheat just install eac-proton from steam library if you search proton.

Then game will function properly.

Also if you played games from epic before then steam able to log in to epic account then launches the game after you're done playing it will log out and exit epic launcher.

Because its connected inside steam for ease of use.

I'm jank tinkerer if it works then it works.
