Multitude of issues with my 5950x Not doing what it should be doing under load and more!

Go to solution Solved by RevengerXXL,

UPDATE: Well had to just buy a new PC. THis will leave me time to diagnose and save some cash to fix the old one. Many thanks to all who responded!!!

Howdy Folks, Rev here!

Welcome to my complete loss of what next nightmare!!!

First I would like to Give a history of the PC, (Full, curent PC specs below) My original Build was a MSI MEG X570 Ace with a AMD Ryzen 3950x 64GB ram Gigabyte 1080Ti Waterforce with custom Waterloop. May 2021. The PC ran very well without temp spikes or the like. I maintained my water and thermal paste every six months like clockwork. Kept the PC dust free and in a well maintaind AC room. In mid 2023 I noticed a slight rise in CPU temps but was not woried until about a week later and the Pump started making some whining noises. I imediatly ordered a new water pump and replaced it. The new pump was DOA and temps spiked thru the roof! Once it ewas replaced a second time the PC was fine for a few weeks and then temps were high but within the limits of the CPU. I under clocked the 3950x and ordered a 5950x and Upgraded the Ram to a full complement of 128 GB adn a 3080. Once the upgrade was completed, I noticed that Temps were a bit high compaired to the 3950x but well within what other users were experianceing with the 5950x. I started to get errors thruout my pc randomly. M.2 Drives not showing, Ram showing half, Temperature spikes of over the 90c limit. Hard resets under load. I saw a temp on the package jump to 106c just before the PC shutdown one time. I have been recording sensors readings thruout the pc using HWINFO and nothing seems to be causing the issues that I can see. At this poiint I had underclocked the CPU and the machine had been stable. I have been able to do all my video rendering, video editing, gameing without hindrence. As of 3 weeks ago, not so much....

Full specs:

Windows:             Windows 11 Home 23H2 Build 22631.4460 Feature pack 1000.22700.1047.0

Motherboard:       MSI MEG X570 Ace (MS-7C35)  (2 PCI-E x1, 3 PCI-E x16, 3 M.2, 4 DDR4 DIMM, Audio, Video, Dual Gigabit LAN, WiFi)

Bios:                      1.Q1

CPU:                      AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor

Ram X 4:               G Skill Trident Z Neo F4-3600C16-32GTZN    32 GB DDR4-3600 DDR4 SDRAM  (16-22-22-42 @ 1801 MHz)

Video Card:          Gigabyte Aorus RTX 3080 Xtreme WaterForce WB 10G 2.0 LHR (GV-N3080AORUSX WB-10GD)

Disk Drive:            WDC WD10EACS-22D6B0  (1 TB, SATA-II) (Video Storage G:)

Disk Drive M.2:    Sabrent Rocket 4.0 2TB  (2000 GB, PCI-E 4.0 x4) (Main C:)

Disk Drive M.2:    Sabrent SB-RKT4P-2TB  (1863 GB) (Secondary K:)

Disk Drive M.2:    Sabrent  (1907 GB) (Image Drive F:)

So a few week ago most of the original issues are back plus a few others. Drives not showing and ram not showing in full. Temparatures are high but not over the TDP. System shuts down at higher temps but not thermal throttleing. New symptoms are Sound girggling when the cpu only clocks to 541MHz (Happens only whaen using Brave Browser or any video softwere or games or HWINFO Stress testing. Mostly during loading of said programs)

Not sure where to go from here! I have done a few things to midigate the issues but if you need to know what those are, please feel free to ask so I can give specifics!

Many Thanks,

Rev

I mean this just sounds like a wonky cpu or that you need to update your bios once more to the most recent version even if it's a beta one

Hey Thanks jaslion for your reply! I belive that the CPU is dying too. But I also belive that is a symptom of the main problem and not the direct problem. The Bios is the latest available from MSI. I will look again to be sure!

Many Thanks,

Rev

Got the  3950x still? If so plop that in and see what that gives.

Sounds more like you got a semi defective one out of the box. it happens

The 3950x had the same issues. That is why I upgraded to the 5950x.

If both CPUs are having the same issues it's likely being cause by something else. Possibly a bad board.

Try running the ram at slower speeds. Never know, might work.

Reset every bios setting to default as well.

Did the Bios thing a few times now but have not dropped the ram below default install speeds. While rated higher i have never clocked them up to anything higher than default Bios settings. I can try to reduce the speed an let you know!!!

Hey Toasty,

Underclocked the ram today and to no avail, nothing changed! Thanks for your input!

What happens when you just run half?

have you tried to increase SOC voltage at all?

Instead of 1.35v maybe try 1.375vdimm?

Are you refering to using half the ram instaled? Like two sticks of ram vs 4?

I have not increased SOC voltage. What do you think that will solve? I am not familiar with this stuff very much. So I don't know what it will accomplish. LOL (I am not educated enough to understand) Any explanation will help me learn better!

Yup.

It will give the memory controller a slight voltage bump to deal with the absolute massive capacity that you are trying to run. If you have heard people talk about 4 sticks being a load on a memory controller, this is what they would mean instead of freaking out over someone trying to run a 4x8 setup lol.

I bet it will run, just need to tinker with it.

Okay that make sence. Many thanks! I will give it a try when i get to the office Sat.

Yes it is a massive amount of memory but I tend to use every bit of it when rendering large 3D interactive buildings (3D Interactive Blueprints) for the enginers/Builders. It makes rendering take less than 2 days LOL! We are a startup and money is very tight. No budget for new things for us to use so yeah there is that!

Except for 13/14th gen intel, CPU is the *last* thing to suspect
