My phone restarts itself

I have a Samsung Galaxy A53.
I noticed this yesterday: twice since then, when I press the unlock button on my phone, it restarts by itself.
I've even lost recent Whatsapp messages.
Can anyone tell me what could be causing this? A low battery? Memory?
For a few months now, I've noticed that the phone is getting very hot. In fact, the panel that covers the back of the phone has come off (I use a cover to keep it in place). One other point I think it's important to mention: I haven't used the original charger and cable for a while, which I've lost.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a bad battery to me.

can bad batteries cause heating issues?

the back falling off is unsurprising with a bad battery since they expand when they go bad

welp since the back has already fallen off itll be very easy to replace the battery yourself as the ribbon cable just needs to be unplugged and the battery will pop out with abit of force since there is abit of adhesive on the battery

might need a small screwdriver to unscrew things though since the battery ribbon cable usually has a peice of metal ontop presumably to stop it from accidentally coming off on its own but a cheap screwdriver set will probably do and some also come with tools meant for phone repair notably those plasic pry tools to disconnect the ribbon cables so no need to use your nails and yes i personally have one of these and i got it for 4$ for somewhere over 50 screwedriver bits small to big and other screw types like torx

If the battery's kaput, it will heat up if you try to charge it.

Excessive heat can also cause bad batteries.

That is good to know, thank you. Where I live is hard to trust local repair shops, and authorized centers tend to charge pretty steep prices.

which is why i do it myself when possible

oh and if you want to do an lcd replacement incase it ever breaks look for phones with your same lcd and buy them prefferably ones that have issues that arent lcd related so you can get em cheaper especially if theyre dead

aftermarket lcds tend to suck ass cause theyre low quality garbage and this is especially bad on midrangers with amoleds as youll only see shitty ips lcd replacements that wont even compare to the stock oled

i cant belive a shop near my grandmas house told me id be getting an original lcd just to get me some low quality trash that i could have bought online and put on my phone for 8$ then charge 20$ by calling it oem quality, atleast they did the battery right though

ill be replacing this things lcd again once i get access to my tools again but this time im buying another phone with the same lcd so i have extra spareparts and good ones at that not some low quality aftermarket garbage

and if you want a decent repair but dont want to go search for and cannibalize another phone look at official service centers, dont even bother with anything else that isnt an official service center for your specific brand and afaik samsung has plenty of em since theyre a major brand, itll be expensive but you arent getting subpar dogshit parts

if both of these are unavailable or prices are ridicolously high then the phone is a write off as a midranger isnt really worth that much these days and an upgrade is usually pretty cheap going to a used flagship like the s10/20 (better cameras displays speakers build quality everything youd expect from a flagship), you can use the subpar aftermarket ips but it wont be good as in looking at the sides the screen becomes blue or its low resolution garbage but if you need it in a pinch its fine before you upgrade to a used flagship

my galaxy a8+ is exactly this though cheap aftermarket ips replacements are cheap enough (<10$) that it wont be a complete writeoff if i kill the amoled but i definitely wont be watching anything on it when that happens and id have probably bought an xperia 1 by that point which would replace it for any media consumption so itd probably be delegated to other things like viewing charts or something like that, its not worth anything monetarily so its better to have as another secondary even if ive replaced it with an xperia 1
