Hello,

I'm looking for a good basic smartphone (not for myself) that ticks the boxes for an older person that wants..

  1. Long-life battery use, two days at least
  2. Supports WhatsApp
  3. Long ringtone with more than 6 rings
  4. Sim-free
  5. UK-Based
  6. Easy to use
  7. No more than £150
  8. Small screen, like 5inch

I came up with the Nokia Lumia 635, It's old however will WhatsApp still work? as they have ended windows mobile support in/since 2019

Regards

Is this going to be their first smartphone?

I have a Pixel 4a, it's a good size but they might get overwhelmed if they've never touched Android before.

And I really wouldn't recommend getting them a phone on a dead platform like Windows Mobile. When the phone inevitably breaks, or the OS ends up completely unsupported by even web browsers, they'll have to learn something else almost completely from scratch. They'd be better off spending a little more on an iPhone SE; iOS is very thoroughly documented and its fundamentals haven't changed all that much in a long time. (It also eliminates the variable of which Android frontend they're used to. iOS is iOS.)

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Small screen phones are hard to find these days.
You can find a iPhone SE 3rd Gen (4,7'' screen) for a little more than your budget, but this one is not new:

small phones dont really exist anymore and the only android small phone that comes to mind is the s10e which should be pretty cheap used but the battery is miniscule and i doubt itd last 2 days even if its just basic stuff, even then most of them are lowend garbage phones

only things that might be decent for small android would be stuff like the pixel 2 and xz2 compact while quite old are still pretty decent as the rest are ancient, lowend garbage, or mid 5" phones

used iphone se are pretty interesting if you want a properly small phone so if it has to be really small this seems to be your only choice and if you are fine with ios definitely get these as theyll be much better than those ancient small flagships i mentioned

I was also looking at the Pixel however it's the cost to consider, as of now she's using TTfone TT970 and she's finding it hard able to use that
