I made a tech buying mistake which I have never made before

Ok so I was looking for a launch model fat PS3. I wanted one because I had a bunch of PS2 games but my PS2 broke, my Blu-ray player was having issues and I wanted something with a bluetooth remote and I wanted to play some old 360 games (all the games I wanted to play were multiplats and on 360).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_models

There is a wikipedia page on the PS3 models. I am just going to make this simple. There was a fat PS3 that was made that had none of the features of the fat PS3 but looked exactly the same. I had known of this model's exitance but I thought it had black trim, no it turns out that was a different reduced cost fat ps3 model. Who thought this was a good idea ? Wouldn't it devalue the more expensive ones who were bought by Sony's most loyal fans ?

What is even worse, not only does this model have none of the benefits of the launch PS3, it has all the downsides that come a long with the yellow light of death, the worse power supply and 90 nm RSX chip.

I am crashing out rn

the backwards compatable ps3 were sold for a short time i think it was 20gb or 40 gb and beleave it has 4 usb ports on the front. was like $1000+ or somthing at some point they stopped selling it and put of the "fixed" model (think 60gb+) witch didn't have the backwards compatibility. some point i payed like $750 Canadian for mine 1 controller and one game uncharted. then got lbp and another controller...

they stopped the first model do to a problem with cpu/gpu something like that...🤷‍♂️

so they are sode after these days for that reason and they have to have there cpu swapped and well the got to take parts from other ps3 to do so so its costly. a ps2, xbox 360 and a regular ps3 will cost less then the backwards comparable ps3. i think?🤔

each console around $100 Canadian so probly like 80 usd

You are mixing two different groups. Sony's intention is to keep all control. By allowing backwards compatibility and inadvertently also very good modding options (the original PS3 could run custom Linux) they limited their own profits. With PS3 era having Internet connectivity and selling older games as digital copies was becoming a thing. IIRC Nintendo was already doing it on Wii to some extent. So Sony's most loyal fans wouldn't care about lack of features that those looking for best bang for buck are looking for.

I also don't understand why you are bringing "360" in this discussion. "360" commonly refers to Xbox 360 and is Microsoft products, not Sony.

Easy way to check if the console is BC: its model name must start with either CECHA or CECHB. A is the 60GB launch model, B the 20GB launch model.
