Hey everyone!

For the past few months, my laptop has occasionally started making very loud grinding noises.

It's gotten louder and more common, and the only way to stop it is to shut off the laptop. I suspect it has something to do with a fan.

It's only a few years old. Does anyone know what might be wrong, and how it might be able to be fixed?

Thanks!

Hi. I think you are right - that is a fan.

Whether the fan is worn out or if it has a cable making contact with the fan blades, only opening the laptop will tell. By the noise alone, however, I might put a small bet on the latter.

I've never had to replace a laptop fan before - I'm not sure how off-the-shelf the fan would be - but I think you should be able to find a replacement somehow.
