With new computer parts rumored to be around the corner, should you wait, or should you buy computer parts now? And with the Tariffs possibly coming in next year, this complicates things even further!

Buy an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU: https://geni.us/ZHXS3

No such thing as not being political. everything is effected by policies imposed by someone. Be that in writing by a state, or your own personal ethics.
Something being apolitical is nonsense, at best you can argue its status quo, which is political as in its the opposite of changing it.

Math is math, the value one puts on math is different. This video was no more or less political then ANY other LTT video.

If the Tariffs hit full force, I’d anticipate that mainstream performance probably won’t move for a long while.

Though, those that are willing to drop $1000 on a GPU, likely have the means to pay increased prices on a game too. So it may just as well be that games become much more expensive to account for the smaller playerbase able to run their games.

At the very least, the GPUs in january will be uneffected, and if enough stock exists possibly febuary.

yea price performance was not going to go up as much as we wanted because nvidia isnt really doing a node shrink here, all gains they did make will be slashed to non existant with these tariffs.

The 5060 not launching until late feb/march is screwed as a product in general, especially without being able to launch with the 3GB chips. Q2 will probably be one of the worst times to buy a new gpu.

Don't take it wrong. Your green screen still ain't great.

It just looks cheap/horrible with this very sharp and sharp edges Linus and the blurry background without anything in between to soften the transition.

youtube comments on this will probably suck a lot due to knuckleheads

YouTube comments actually look overall good as of now. No big trolls or anything.

I've been buying bits and pieces I need from china before the tariffs hit. If I was in the market for a pc right now I'd try to take advantage of current pricing for sure. Depending on supply chains it could be even worse than the video suggests in terms of pricing.

In 2020 the Australian Government started an enquiry into the origin of COVID-19.

China responded by imposing tariffs on Australian products. Tariffs as high as 200% (wine) and 80% (barley). Australian farmers faced bankruptcy.

The Australian Government quietly ended the enquiry. China responded by removing the tariffs nearly 3 years later.

This is the true nature of tariffs. They are an economic weapon used by powerful countries to force weaker countries to bend the knee.

The government doesn't care what your GPU costs. They want to make the other country bend the knee.

Given the dour news, and recent streak of poorly performing games, I’d definitely like to see Linus do a livestream with some older/indy/good performing games. The PC gaming space could use some positivity, tbh.

Can’t control the prices of hardware, nor the poor performing/optimized games coming out, but I do have the definitive say in what I play.

Kind of an example, I picked up Sonic x Shadow Generations. While on a technical level, they’re obviously dated, but the art style is fantastic, and shines brilliantly at 4K, of which 4K 60 fps is absolutely attainable on modest hardware (Shadow Generations is more graphically demanding, but runs a flawless 4K60P on a laptop RTX 4060, no DLSS nonsense involved).

issue now is game hardware be it console or pc can push game anymore.

its all the upscaled game world now.

some play nice like dlss or fsr or game dev own version.

this started around 360 era and never went away.

even unreal 5 is being forced to user a sliding  poly on backgrounds in the distance.

its clever tech but show how under power now consumer stuff is.

before peeps rant on.

nvdia makes  gpu that can fully vm 4090s... multi instants of games running on 1 card.

I’d seen some damn good game worlds running on decidedly pedestrian hardware, including some I’d thought have no right looking and running as good as they do on Intel integrated graphics. Doom 2016 absolutely blew me away running on a bog standard Dell laptop (i7-1165G7). And tbh, I think it looks better on that, than STALKER on low settings running on far more powerful hardware.

Being a fan of jRPGs myself, there’s tons of options available that would be nearly unthinkable a mere decade ago. Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Age (my favorite game) looks remarkably clean at 4K with old-school MSAA applied. While it’s not cranking out fancy shaders; the clean, flawlessly sharp aesthetic makes for a really nice image.

And Satisfactory is another game I’d put a lot of time in. Looks great, and runs even better on modest hardware.

We don’t have to swallow every poorly running title that big studios pump out. PC gamers absolutely can be, and should be, more choosy on what to pick up.

doom the oddball out. but doing in house upscale engine is very costly now.

It's more noticeable in the replies to the positive comments.

Majority of the helpful and inciteful comments are upvoted more than the other ones, which why you don't see those as much.

I stretched my debt budget today to purchase the last two items for my build due in part to this video.  I was waiting on the 9900x3d and 8800xtx with everything else being purchased with black friday deals.  The reason I pulled the trigger on this system after watching this video is the same reason I sometimes mark the first comment as a solution on the forum.  It just makes sense and I'm educated enough to know that they gave me the correct information for a choice.  I have been batting around the idea of a new system since earlier this year when I figured I would upgrade for GTA6 if it launches next year.  The plan was to wait for the mentioned items and if not possible get the 5090, I just need high vram and everything else goes by the wayside more or less.  Throw in that at my resolution CPU isn't as crucial plus AMD is rumored to only be launching an 8800 series which is on par with the 7900xtx.... it was a no brainer.  The msrp of a 5090 is the same as my entire build including gpu.  The looming threat of scalpers crypto and tariff's made the decision far easier. I got 5 years out of this system with two minor upgrades along the way, it's just time for a new one.

I read this as 8800GTX as I was skimming through. Now those were good times I missed out on.

January into Febuary should be fine.
Those new GPUs (that are launching in jan) are already being stock piled for the launch in warehouses.

doesn't mean they won't jack the price ahead of time.

It's better if they don't have to change MSRP pricing mid-stream to be higher.

If I recall correctly, it was a 25% tariff enacted by the Trump administration last time?   I was somewhat optimistic that Nvidia 50 series pricing could only improve since 40 series was so bad...

Glad I mostly play JRPG these days. Even if my 6700 XT dies I can still play them well on my 1660 Super.

I just got the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X for $325 on NewEgg while the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D you guys recommended is $425, so wouldn't this be a way better deal? Idk, I'm new to buying pc parts but this caught my eye.

Depends - does it involve also paying for MOBO/RAM/etc upgrade? A lot of times 5700X3D/5800X3D is suggested as the endgame upgrade for AM4 for those who already have the platform. Other times it usually is way cheaper to build AM4 platform and get great gaming performance, unless it is the discount season... then... maybe it is still a good idea to save even more and go AM4 + better GPU.

If I'm not mistaken 7900X and 5800X3D give similar gaming performance
