First time PC build will not POST (ram lights only showing signs of power)

Go to solution Solved by woah333,

Solution: After my long list of troubleshooting, the issue turned out to be the Pcie cable that I borrowed from a local PC shop due to not having 3 of the Corsair specified Pcie cables... (2 were Corsair issued and 1 was a random spare).

On the website, they say they provided three in the box. I may have just misplaced mine and thought only two came in the box. But when I swapped the spare one I got from a random PC shop with a corsair issued one, everything booted up properly.

Intitial mobo and PS were not faulty, and I probably didn't need to get them RMA'd. It was literally just the PCIe cable that needed replacing.

Hard to believe THAT is what stopped everything else in my case from powering on🤷🤷

Hi guys, this is my first PC build I've completed and I seem to be having booting issues after connecting all components together...

Symptom: When powering on PC only the RGB from the ram lights up. After hitting the case power button it makes a slight click noise within the PS i believe but none of the Fans (Case, Gpu, Cpu cooler) seem to spin at all which is super weird.

My build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8LW2FZ

Things I've tried so far:

• Switching to different power outlets.

• Jumped the front panel power with screwdriver (would get same outcoming as plugging in FP header to motherboard and pressing the power button). It makes a slight click noise within the PS but none of the Fans (Case, Gpu, Cpu cooler) seem to spin still.

• Taking out all of my 4 RAM sticks and reseating them ensuring they click in properly.

• Pulling out 2 of my 4 RAM sticks and using slots 2 and 4. Tried slots 1 and 3 as well.

• Tried 1 Ram at each slot.

• Checked the manual of my Motherboard to see the which headers my CPU cooler should be connected to (CPU_Fan header and Sys_Fan4_Pump) made sure they're plugged properly.

• Reseated my GPU.

• Confirmed CPU cables were not mixed up with PCIe cables from my Corsair RM750 power supply to the motherboard connectors (2 Cpu cables used and connected to my Motherboard and 3 Pcie cables to connect to my gpu 16 pin connector).

• Unplugged all Power connections from my motherboard AND on the PS end then re-plugged ensuring they all clicked in properly.

• Successfully updated motherboard's BIOS via Q-Flash.

• Cleared CMOS.

• Reseated CPU and checked for any bent pins.

  • RMA'd motherboard (same outcome).
  • Tested with 850w PS (same outcome).

I'm leaning towards it being a Motherboard or CPU issue.. But all of these components are brand new out of the box.

If you have any ideas and suggestions pls let me know. I've been troubleshooting for quite some time now :c

Start with taking the GPU out and trying only one dimm; eliminate those

I'd also try a paperclip test on the power supply to see if theres any fault there. But seeing that you were able to flash your bios, I doubt it.

There should be 4 LEDs in the bottom right corner of the memory labeled CPU, DRAM, VGA, and BOOT. What's the order that they're lighting up in, and for how long is each one illuminated?

It'll be these:

Appreciate the suggestion!

Took out the GPU out and tried only one dimm, still same outcome unfortunately.

Not light up order. When powering on, none of the 4 LEDs lights at all. Just the Ram sticks 😞

OK, if they never power up, the motherboard isn't even trying to boot up. I'd check all the power connections, both at the motherboard and the PSU, but assuming they're all connected it's time to RMA the motherboard.

RMA'd motherboard with B650 instead of B650e and tested. Same outcome. Then I tested with 850w PS and same outcome. It would make a singular click within the PS and only power on the RGB lights of the RAM. I'm so confused why my RMA board still isn't booting properly.
