Why are there no good options for construction-grade over-the-ear headphones with Bluetooth?

I've been looking for a set of over-ear headphones that are actually designed for construction/contractor work, but it seems like the market is really limited. I'm looking for something that could handle the demands of a worksite and include features like:

  • Intercom/walkie-talkie capability to communicate with people on-site without taking off the headset
  • Bluetooth for easy connectivity
  • Durable build to withstand a little dust, dirt, and light water exposure
  • Comfortable fit for long hours
  • Solid sound quality with noise-canceling to block out machinery (e.g., mowers, tractors, power tools)
  • A good mic for calls, ideally with an optional wrap-around mic for better audio clarity in noisy environments

It seems like there's a gap here in the market. Why don't we see more high-quality headphones that meet these needs, especially in "blue collar" settings where reliable communication and hearing protection are essential? Are there any brands or models that come close to this, or any tips on how to adapt other headsets for construction work?

I think the main reason why is just, situational awareness. I mean, you can barely hear with the usual over the ear construction stuff, now imagine you also play music aswell. That's a huge safety risk, imagine some guy cuts himself and you're just minding your bizz listening to tunes.
I've only heard of people modding their construction earmuffs to headphones.

Also, making a quick search for earmuffs with bluetooth and such, there's the 3m Worktunes Connect. As long as you aren't in a risk-heavy enviorment, like mowing your lawn or building something at home, these should be okay.

One of the only decent options for durable wireless headphones on the market currently are the V-Moda Crossfade 2's

Also, I agree with Zenny232323, it could pose a safety risk too. Maybe consider Airpod Pro 2's with transparency mode? They are decent wireless headphones and as long as the volume isn't too high it should be fine.

Some of the ear protection that shooters use might work. A few models have noise cancellation and isolation, Bluetooth, and you can connect radios and 3.5mm audio to them.

Axil is a popular brand for those.

Last guy on our site who was tuned out listening to his headphones no longer works for us.
After calling out 3 times and failing to get his attention eventually had to get in his line of site just to get him to do his job.

If you're interested in a product please download and read the manual first.

Having been a forklift operator in a retail setting: getting the attention of people WITHOUT any noise reduction devices was nearly impossible. Proximity alarms and 85db obnoxious horns 10ft from them was not enough for them to get out of their bubble and not walk out into the path of a 5 ton forklift. Literally had a new hire standing UNDER ME in my blind spot, while I was strapped into a Picker, AS I SIGNALLED (horn pulsing) that I was coming down. Dude got an EARFUL from me, and got reported.

Doesn't 3m have some ear protection with bluetooth that seems to check all these boxes when Ive used them.

Yup, they work fine.

I don't work in construction, but when I run power tools or work in server racks I just wear regular hearing protectors over AirPods.

this 3m thing seems cool but im not sure its what op is looking for... what about walkie-talkie functionality,  a mic in general....?

this seems a one purpose product (with questionable security implications)  what op wants is a multipurpose product... with some security oriented features no less.
