Hi all,

Was hoping someone here could help!

About a month ago, I used the program 'Scaled Resolution Editor' to add the resolution 5120 x 2160 to my PC. It worked perfectly. Popped in the resolution via SRE, restarted my PC, then the resolution was available to select in Windows Display settings. But then now with RDR's launch, I wanted to play in 5120x2160 but then the resolution was gone.

I can add 5120x2160 again via SRE and SRE reports it in its list (SRE program that shows NV_modes list) but it does not show up in Windows Display settings. I have also tried editing the NV_modes registry manually and that does not work either.

But if I add a resolution of fx 3000 x 2160, that works for some reason, I can then pick this in the Windows Display settings. But anything higher, anything touching around the normal 4K / 3840 x 2160 resolution, that resolution will not show up as an option in Windows Display settings.

What the h*ll changed? 😄

A suggesting people make for these kind of issues is to make sure that Scaling is set to GPU in NVCP and this I have it set to and always have had it set to.

Because I haven't used any of the RTX Nvidia card Idk what its called anymore, but doesn't Nvidia have something similar to AMD virtual super resolution.. Edit: Ok found it. DSR. Thanks Nick but I think you may have misunderstood or maybe I'm just bad a explaning. I'm not looking for an upscaler in that sense.

My monitor has a resolution of 7680x2160, basically two 4K 32" inch side by side, running in 32:9 aspect ratio.

But obviously this resolution is hard to run, especially when I have a 3080 Ti, so running the monitor in 21:9, meaning 5120x2160p, that saves up a lot of performance and I still get that ultrawide over normal 16:9 🙂

I'm not sure I follow how you add the custom resolution. But why not just use Nvidia control panel for that? Maybe set a res at native minus 1/4: 5760x1640 for example.

You can easily add GPU scaled resolutions. These come through the drivers. When you check your available resolutions in Windows Display settings or in GPU driver control panel, most likely 2/3 of them aren't actually resolutions that came from the monitor, these are resolution coming from your graphics drivers.

These graphics drivers resolutions, these can be deleted and you can add to them also. These resolutions are stored in the NV_modes registry (for Nvidia). It is this registry that SRE customizes. SRE added the resolution you type in into the NV_modes registry key. This is also why you can do this manually; just open the NV_modes and type in the resolution yourself.

Yes, but why don't you use Nvidia Control panel for this? If it isn't working when you type it directly in NV_modes?

The "normal" way through NVCP is greyed out as my monitor uses DSC.

I see. Makes sense. Then I have no clue to what you can do.
