Hi everyone.

I'm having quite severe problems with my 2 year old Lenovo laptop.

My warranty recently ran out, and now I'm facing a range of problems.

1. My battery life has been cut short by a drastic amount.

As seen in the picture below. In intelligent performance mode. 33% battery gives me 30 minutes of battery time.

In battery saving mode. it only extends to 30% being 46minutes.

Whatever is going on, my battery is draining super fast. Even just watching YouTube or googling stuff.

I CPU hovers around 15-25%, so not pushing my system at all.

image.png.2ac813c46c0ba8866da9d75ce1a972f9.png

2. The second issue is that my laptop is getting extremely hot and the fans runs wild.

When i first encountered this problem, I opened the laptop up. No dust to be seen.

This problems only happens in intelligent and performance mode + while plugged in.

This tells me its a power profile issue maybe?

3. To battle these issues i have set my laptop to battery saver.

But on battery saver the whole systems gets choppy and stutters a lot.

Its also not an option all the time, as this is my work laptop.

I have to do light cad design on it from time to time, when away from my desk.

What could i do to mitigate some of these issues.

I have already done a complete fresh reinstall of windows.

Is Lenovo vantage sabotaging my system to get me to buy extended warranty?

I can try and clean it again, but it was already very clean last time.

Thank you all in advance.

Check for any available driver and BIOS updates.

You can also run a battery report to see how much it has degraded:

p. No dust to be seen.

Blow it out regardless with a pc duster or compressor. Just because you cant see it doesnt mean it isnt there.

Heat also influences battery life.

Also may wanna do a performance test like cinebench to see if the performabce is still as expected and its now having issues there which are trickling down to kther problems

I think it must be a hardware issue, 2 years is kinda enough to drain the battery off its optimal performance, maybe you overused your battery (like always plugged in or always in high performance mode) , either way I guess replacing the battery would fix most of the issue. Because Faulty battery will overheat (eventually will start to bulk up)..

Hi guys,

Thank you for the feedback, i really appreciate it.

I have made sure that my bios and intel management engine is up to date.

My battery has degraded all the way from 70Wh to 62Wh.

That seems like a big degradation to me.

I will also swing by my workshop later today and give it another go at blowing dust out.

Thank you so much for your time and effort.

I will report back how it goes.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi everyone,

If anyone has a similar issue in the future this is how i "fixed" my problem temporarily.

I got rid of any Lenovo software on my laptop.

Lenovo Vantage etc.

Now i get the occasional stutter, every minute or so.

As i use this machine for work, Word, excel, VScode etc. its not really a problem for me at all.

But it should probably be investigated sometime in the future.

Thank you again for the helpful tips.

Hi, I suggest you a software called process lasso, you can configure it to "slow" the turbo and obtain good temperatures while not putting it on load, but not "stuttering" like battery saver mode. But when you need the power it will switch to high performance accordingly to your needs.

I had also installed custom schedulers for my alder lake CPU laptop, therefore it will use more e- cores to prolong battery life and use more p cores to obtain power if necessary.

Yeah, basically your CPU will refuse to work.

Performance mode=max turbo even when you are not doing anything, all cores will be on sipping power.

Performance mode+charged on = actively using fans and turboing like crazy
