I installed Windows on a new PC that initially came with DOS preinstalled on (28-09-2024). The Windows installation was done using a CD via an external CD reader. During this process, the PC was not connected to the internet, and no USB drives (such as a flash drive) were used.

Afterward, I also installed Microsoft Office on the PC, again using a CD through the same external CD reader.

Before handing over the system to the army, I checked the USB storage entries in the registry (specifically, the USBSTOR registry key) to verify any connected USB devices. At that time, the only device entry recorded was for the external CD reader that I had used.

When the army first started using the system, they connected it to their local LAN for the first time. Later, I noticed that a new USB device entry had appeared in the USBSTOR registry key, showing the same serial number as the external CD reader I had originally used. This new entry was recorded with a more recent timestamp(01-10-2024), corresponding to the date the system was connected to the LAN. In this time frame, no one else has used the pc.

I am trying to understand the possible reason for this additional registry entry with the same serial number of the external CD reader, especially since no new USB device had been physically connected to the system.WhatsAppImage2024-11-04at13_12.17_716f259c.thumb.jpg.8fb69d0aa6fe6054b505410aeb1d3dd5.jpg
