Gaming headsets are truly the most mixed of bags. They are often overpriced and low quality. But still, gaming companies around the world are making TONS of them. From Razer's Barracuda headsets, to Logitech's Astro lineup, or even Steelseries and audiophile brands like Audeze it seems like everyone is trying to make it in the market. But it turns out NONE of those companies are the best sellers. Nope, that would be Turtle Beach, yes that Turtle Beach. So why the heck are you all buying the Recon 50 and Recon 70 Gaming Headsets? Let's find out.

Because people just see it as a popular buy them as gifts for the "gamer" relatives kids. Straight  ewaste tier headsets. Its been 15+ years since turtle beaches had any relevancy as people learned just how poor quality they are.

Astro A40s then a40 TRs use to be mostly decent enough, they are comfortable. But once you get to the 250-500$ prices they have been charging for them, its well beyond what they are worth.

I honestly thought the mic on the Recon 70's sounded better and closer to the studio mic compared to the more bassier sounding 50s.

Audeze Maxwells are real good, not sure they have real competition with Turtle Beach headsets costing 5 times less..

indeed. I daily drive these, but the MIC quality i utter trash. Would rather the headsets be like $20 or $30 cheaper and they omit the MIC on refreshes when they happen.

I bought them after looking at reviews vs competition (Logitech G Pro, Steelseries Arctic, Razer HyperX...) and the mic ended up okay

I only use it for some Discord, but it's ok - do you use the pluggable mic ?

I recall the Logitech had an awful very dampened and flat sound

I don't. I tested it and it was god awful. No one on Discord could really understand what I was saying. I use an Audio Technica ATR2100 as my main mic.

It's not "bad", I admit it's too low in my experience, I understand your issue

To be frank: Neither sound great but both get the job done.

If I recall correctly LTT/LMG uses Sennheiser MKH-416 microphones. Having recently looked myself into microphones you can get a fairly decent one for a lot cheaper that are close to the $1000 MKH416.

People never go out of business.

That's the obvious answer to each and everyone of their sleep-inducing "why is everyone buying xyz" videos. JFC, what a waste of internet bandwidth.
