Budget (including currency): $1500

Country: India

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Purely for games

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Existing Build :
Ryzen 5 3600
1660 super
3200mhz ddr4 8gbx2
Steel Legend 450 motherboard
seasonic 750w psu ( recently purchased )

I mostly game on the weekends and have been noticing significant fps drops in games i play. I am confused whether to upgrade my existing setup or get a new one altogether as this hardware seems outdated to me. Budget can be taken upto $2k if it gets my system future proof as I only upgrade once every 4-5 years.

Get a 5700X3D.

Upgrade to 32GB of RAM.

Buy a GPU with the remaining budget.

You can build a great PC for $2K, but I'd expect a 5700X3D and 4070 Super to last you that kind of timeframe.

I'd say GPU first, as that 5700x3d is gonna eat up a lot of budget.  The GPU is gonna be the most significant fps booster in almost every game.  Getting the fastest GPU that can be paired with a 5600, a 5600, and an additional 16GB of RAM would probably be the most efficient upgrade, with the RAM being the last priority.

Even just getting the fastest GPU that can be paired with the 3600 OP already has would be a decent upgrade, (something to the tune of a 6700xt would work) and putting the rest of the money away for later.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

OP did give us a budget of $1500

And still not near the budget limit.

Goes perfectly well with the new Seasonic 750w PSU that OP bought 🙂

Could even get a decent AM5 system + 7900 XTX within that budget.

Sure, but IDK what the market in India looks like.

That is also correct.  I would imagine that things might be a bit more expensive over there.

But since we got a budget in dollars I go with what we are given.

I would still say a 5700X3D + maybe a 7800 XT / 7900 GRE or 4070 Ti / Super is a good upgrade.

The 5700X3D really helps on the 1% and 0.1% lows.

I found the 5700X3D on Indian Amazon for 266 USD.  So a little upcharge but that was to be expected, I think OP can definitely get a decent enough GPU with that one 🙂

5700x3d obviously

not sure about new pricing but afaik used pricing for stuff like the 3080/6800xt/6950xt in india is pretty ok (comparable to most other countries)

add another 2x8 kit for 32gb cause asrock 300/400 boards are t topology and run best with 4 sticks, if you want matching sticks send a thaiphoon burner screenshot and ill point you to the rams that match your current rams so xmp will be guaranteed to work

Thanks a ton for all the help. I'll go get a 5700x 3d and a 7900xt along with some ram. Will save me money I can buy something else with. Also , ill get a smaller am4 board to crank the older components inside and plan to put it in under my tv cabinet for browsing.

If you're talking about the CPU, yes, the least it might need is BIOS update right before the swap,

the VRMs are quite strong here:

Also you need to update BIOS before the swap, which can be tricky at first depending on it's current version, but people here can help with that, whatever the version may be.

Yes, absolutely!  The Steel Legend 450 is a great motherboard, you just need to update the BIOS to be able to use the 5700X3D in this motherboard.

No Problem 🙂  A 5700X3D + a 7900XT/XTX will be a massive boost in gaming.
