Can I Make Money Fixing Dead CPUs?

JordB

We've saved money by buying and fixing damaged motherboards, but could we make a profit selling repaired CPUs? Linus and the team take on 'for parts' CPUs from eBay.

Why reupload?

Microsoft owns my soul.

Also, Dell is evil, but HP kinda nice.

You can't really make money. You should be selling for for like 25-50% off of a good used one.

These are not just used.

Until you actually sell them, you do not no how much you will get for them.

Not everyone have a team working for them to help you.

It seems like the last couple video's were rushed.

You should really reserve this to save money on CPUs you're buying for yourself and not for resale. Especially on very bent pins they are weakened by metal fatigue and could break at any time if any mistakes happen in the future. Selling them as "good" is in my opinion immoral when they should be sold as repaired at a smaller margin.

I have repaired a number of CPUs for my own personal projects (my own 5900x had missing and extremely bent pins) and have had severely bent pins break later on just handling them. It's no big deal for me but for a customer that's just unacceptable.

@Gannam If you use it frequently invest in a stereo microscope with trinocular for the camera port.

Benefit of the streo microscope is that it has depth perception.

Any info on the microscope they’re using? Or maybe something similar if anyone has any recommendations? Been using a magnifying ring light for too long now haha

We bought it for a different video that never happened, and TBH it's just whatever was cheap on Ali Express about a year ago. I'd say it's more 'good enough' than actually 'good'.

Well now my side-gig is ruined. Finding for parts or untested CPUs and motherboards are gonna be a chore because of the attention of how easy it is.

The video is entertainment. It's not a how-to guide on how to make money. Don't take it so seriously.
