Best Gpu to combine with Ryzen5 5600gt

redbrixeli

The two cards I'm looking at are

Radeon Rx 6650 XT 8gb

Gigabyte 3060 12gb x3

I've read that the Amd card would work best but hear of issues with its drivers.

As someone who doesn't want to hassle with troubleshooting, I feel the 3060 would be the best bet.

So, I wonder if the issues with AMD cards are as bad as people claim?

Both are going to be stable and good. As a NVIDIA user myself I will say AMDs adrenaline software is slightly better IMO. I don't need to tell you obviously the 3060 has more VRAM which would be preferable out of the 2. Your average Rx 6650 > 3060. However you're getting a 3 fan 12gb OC 3060 which is going to outperform that Rx 6650.

6650XT is a faster GPU then the RTX 3060 12GB

But I personally would not buy either right now myself, New mid tier GPUs come out H1 2025.
If I had to buy today and the GPUs were the same price, a 3060 12GB because I do play games on my TV
I suppose you are also looking at them because they are at a deep discount as both are soon to be two generation old cards.

They are not. I say this with the strongest language I can, AMD drivers are NOT worse then Nvidia drivers.

Which issues in particular? I have an RX 6600 and it works just fine.

People in forums mostly just say the drivers are bad?

having to delete and reinstall, some have said the issue is with windows.

another stated that AMD is great for linux, and Nvidia for windows?

personally, I'm not sure what's true... and I'm sure there is bias to some extent.

For now, I think I will just go with Nvidia, as I just want a great 1080 gaming experience.

It more so Nvidia is complicated on Linux.
Not that either one is better on windows.

What people remember is AMD drivers 10 (yes 10) years ago having some issues. those got resolved... 10 years ago. Nvidia drivers are quite literally just as bad as modern AMD drivers. People have a tendency to latch onto something that was true a decade ago, and repeat it every year thinking its true when things changed.... a decade ago.

Maybe that was the case many years ago, but not today. I have had zero issues with my RX6800.

In my experience 99% of people who tell you AMD's drivers are bad will also tell you they haven't actually owned an AMD card in years.

My last three GPUs were AMD (R9 290, RX 480, RX 6600) and my experience with all of them was fine.

I remember one game that wouldn't run at launch (Nier Automata). Developers blamed the drivers. They later fixed it with a game update so 🤷‍♂️

Of course I'm just a sample size of one

Hey, he's talking about a 12gb VRAM 3 fan OC 3060. It will outperform an average 6650XT. The 6650XT is at a higher clock speed so you'll have less latency but the extra 4gb of VRAM will make a huge difference in modern demanding titles. Also you could probably bump up that clock speed quite a but due to it being an OC version meant for overclocking. I agree with everything else you said regarding pricing, new cards, and the AMD drivers.

Not really. A GPU marketed as "OC" simply means it has a factory overclock. Not that it is made for overclocking.

Modern cards are generally pushed to their limit already, so most factory overclocks aren't that high anymore and there's usually not much additional headroom.

I still have random driver timeout crashes in OBS with driver version 24.9.1 and video editors refuse to work properly. AMD for work is a no-go.

You can use 4060 Ti with 5600G. A 12400F or 5600X can get an extra 10-20% FPS at 1080P
