Anyway to guesstimate wire guage?

Linkinworm

So I'm trying to work out my psu wire thickness but there's no info online.

im trying to try see if I can run a 240w gpu (peak max 100% load furmark) off a single pigtailed 8 pin. Doing this would stress the single cable about 20w over its max rated 150+pcie slot.

My gpu says it can do 12v at 70amps so no idea it that's an indication of how well made the cables are.

Each pigtail is rated for 150w,  2x150 = 300w. You can easily run a 240w GPU with a pigtailed PSU cable.

if its a somwhat modern PSU, it should be fine.

I ran my GTX 980Ti and RTX 2080 Super with just one pigtail for years.

What brand and model GPU and PSU?

No issue at all, the board is giving 75W power, your PSU cable will have to withstand 170W, that's 10% over "rated" wattage, and PCie cables can stand more than 200W

I ran a 320W RTX3080 like this for several months no issue btw 🙂

DerBauer gave a lot of details about his while ranting against 12VHCrap connectors 😄

Turns out the guage is actually printed on the wire... why i never thought of looking before is beyond me 😂. Turns out it's 18awg. Im just trying to be cautious since I only paid £100 for this 3070 and can't justify the £600 odd for new gpus
