I thought this product was doomed 10 years ago

AdamFromLTT

After a long time in development, the VR treadmill dubbed the Virtuix Omni One has finally made its way to market. But with the future of VR being as uncertain as it is, can a product like this survive without being backed from the likes of Meta (makers of the Quest 3 and Quest 3S) or Apple (makers of The Vision Pro)? While it comes with a Pico 4E headset, at $2600 bucks, the jury is still out on whether the Virtuix Omni One is the future of immersion.

The price is fair I think, if I was able to bring my own headset and have PCVR support.

This at $1900 for the base alone with support for the Quest 3 and other popular headsets would be amazing.

There's a pretty glaring error at 15:48 about it being the only option on the market, considering the katwalk c2 has been on the market for ~2 years now

The delivery of that line didn't come across as intended. We meant to say "one of the only solutions," as that's what was in the script. We've cut out that part to avoid confusion.

Everyone can trim and cut their own videos in YouTube Studio.

Someone in the video mentioned the KatWalk V2, so I did a search. It supports the Meta Quest 3, 2 along with many others, starts at 999, and offers a seating and driving addon as well.

Would love to see a vid about it as a comparison. I think for an exercise machine, these could be great. Seeing how much Linus was sweating after a few minutes gives hope this would be useful, and with gameplay, addictive enough we would actually use it more often.

That is a very valid point. Maybe this comes from their experience in commercial settings, where they can expect their customers to be a bit more active?

I assume they just want to be on the save side and not have them break all the time.

We talking about excercise or weight loss here?

TL:DR
Exercise for the plethora of health benefits, not for weight loss... for that the person in question needs to get their shit together and be disciplined about what and how much they eat.
Also, if the person is obese... yeah I'm not sure this is the right exercise (especially for the joints), consulting with a doctor would be wise.

Why not both?  They can eat healthy all they want, but unless they want to feel starving 24/7 you need some exercise.

But yes always ask a Doctor.

Oh damn, the Virtuix Omni! Now that's a blast from the past. Honestly though, seems like the experience from their enterprise-only period paid off; it looks like a pretty comprehensive and well-built bit of kit, and they're right in that if you're in the market for something like a treadmill or other exercise equipment, this could be a very compelling value even if it's not exactly cheap. I kinda see the same value proposition as the Apple Vision Pro here in that the high up-front cost is because this is meant to a self-contained solution that replaces a lot of stuff at once and ultimately be a comparatively cheap jack-of-all-trades. Hell, imagine having the two work in tandem if they ever open up their ecosystems (both Virtuix and Apple)! Though as said in the video, the real test is gonna be when PCVR enthusiasts get their hands on it, which I'm glad to see is on the cards.

Also looks fairly compact for what it does. Again, a six-foot diameter for the play surface isn't small, but I like the idea of just getting this instead of a whole home gym. Shame I'd have no room in my own house for it...

Now if only someone could wrangle the IP rights for the Sixense STEM back from Penumbra...

I've got a question. It looks like there are probably electric motors pulling you back, when you lean forward to walk / run. What happens if the electricity dies when you're running? Is it safe? If not, it's mandatory for this thing to be used with a UPS, I guess. What is its power consumption?

It would be great if in the next Wan Show they discuss what happened with this video since its premiere. There are some informations in the comments about trimming and cutting a huge part of it, but later most of it seems to have come back 🤔.

There is also a lot of confusion about treating it as the only solution when Kat VR has VR treadmills for home, working with every headset and sell them much cheaper, for many years already. They work with every PCVR game and with some standalone ones too.
