Is Building Higher End PC Doable In These Rack Cases?

WarmEngine

I have a desk (stock image below) that’s designed for studio use with rack spaces between the main surface area and the shelf for the audio and video monitors.  I don’t have as much rack gear now and could dedicate an entire side to a rack mounted case as a result.

Could a case like the ones from this recent video actually accommodate a PC with say a 7800X3D or 7950X3D and a 4080 Super or 4090?  I abandoned this idea til this video went live and I thought of it again.  My biggest concern is the case being cool enough by only air cooling.

Sure, but the downside is it generally be much louder than a larger case. High end (hot) parts require more air flow when crammed into a small space. more air flow generally means faster fans. Faster fans generally mean louder.

Before any one chimes in, there are always exceptions. But usually smaller cases are hotter or louder. Sometimes both.

I didn’t even think about noise levels.  That’s a really solid point and one I didn’t think of.

Dude.. the loudest consumer fans have nothing on the kind used in racks. To get a taste, buy 4 or 5 iPPC 3K fans, and run them at full speed. If you find the sound alarming, just you wait lol..

Those are too quiet. 😉 try one of the really strong Delta or other fans with >150CFM, >20mmAq. 😆

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂
