150$ is all you need to spend and theres the b650 pg lightning and b650 livemixer which are pretty stacked i/o wise

usually id also reccomend the b650e taichi lite if you wanted to spend abit more but price is completely out of whack for that board to the point that id rather just reccomend the x670e taichi for an extra 32$ or the x670e-f/a which are the same price and 29$ cheaper respectively and those all have eclk if you want to overclock the 7800x3d albiet they are massive overkill

inbetween the 150$ boards and the eclk boards is the b650 proart due to having pcie bifurcation so its useful if you wanna run dual gpu or have a card that can take advantage of the extra lanes but this is a completely pointless buy if you have no use for pcie bifurcation

Great video but i wanted to build this pc with all high-end parts . But that could be a better option thanks.

Asus claims their "teamed" power phases work differently and thus better or just as a good as normal power delivery design. I won't be able to validate or prove these claims wrong, as I'm not an OC'er nor do I think OP will OC their CPU. For stock design I think it'll be plenty for a 7800X3D because they all should fall within AMD's specified performance parameters and the VRM cooling itself is overkill anyways.

There is of course the PG Lightning but that does come with less, at least feature wise.

You honestly don't need to. If you really want top of the line, look for x670 x870 chipset boards, but honestly, a 7800x3d will perform just as good on any chipest, just make sure you get one with features you like, slots and good VRM heatsinks.

I got a b650 aorus elite ax, love it, it's a really good moba.

I own the taichi lite and the 7800X3d, definitely overkill but the features fort the price cant be beat (EX-debug display, USB 4.0, etc) but I'm seeing it on newegg's backorder for $240

Can confirm though; board is only worth it under about $270.

I second that motherboard, as well as it's bigger brother the Pro AX.

Sure, you can spend more for that which you don't need.  Higher end for a 7800X3D means epeen basically.

FYI, you're talking to people who own 7800X3D's as well, and they have experience with the boards we're recommending.

The asrock b650 livemixer has the best VRM for $150, which is more than enough for the 7800X3D

I have the same chip and run it on an ASRock B650E PG Riptide WiFi. It has 14+2+1 60A power phases, 3 M.2 storage slots (1 Gen5x4, 1 Gen4x4, 1 Gen3x2), 2.5G Lan, Wi-Fi 6E, 2 PCIe x16 slots (1 Gen5, 1 Gen3), 10 USB ports on the rear I/O (6 USB-A 2.0, 3 USB-A 3.2, 1 USB-C 3.2), integrated 7.1 audio and support for Thunderbolt 4.

It has a BIOS Flashback button and comes with a GPU holder.

The board should come in at $180-200.

Personally, I don't see the need for the additional I/O and PCIe Gen5 lanes on the X670 and X670E boards. Unless, you have a legitimate use for them, most B650 and B650E boards perform just as well, as long as the VRM design is decent.

Honestly, Light VRMs aren't much of an issue with a 7800X-3D, considering its a 90-Watt maximum CPU without External Clock Overclocking (I can only hit 88 watts on mine with completely maxed out PBO and all limits removed using my cheapie MSI Tomahawk B-650 Board that's literally like $110 right now.

THat's a really stupid way to think about things.

Decide what features you need in a board, and buy what meets those requirements.

How many NVME?
Do you need it to support 8x8 HW Bifurcation?
WiFi?
etc.

One feature I would look for today:  USB 4

Don't make some vague "high end parts" handwave.

You say you want to build with high end parts but you’re budget locked on a motherboard?  That is the backbone of your system. Of anything you SHOULDN’T be skimping on, it’s the motherboard.

Build from the motherboard out.  THEN determine where budgets can be saved.  Think logically about this, dude.

Um... $200 isn't a low budget for a B-650 board these days. Mine is literally $110 right now and its the backbone for a flagship 7800X-3D + 7900-XTX gaming system. It works perfectly fine and even does maximum PBO with completely removed limits hitting 4950 MHz All-Core without breaking a sweat.

Its just an MSI Tomahawk B-650 standard ATX.

The VRMs barely even get warm because its a 85-90 Watt absolute maximum power CPU without more advanced OC with Eclk.

You do not need to go expensive on AMD motherboards at all outside pushing the most powerful 7950X/9950X with maximum OC above and beyond even PBO.

That being said, I do agree that putting a decent amount into a MoBo isn't a bad idea. But ya, $200 honestly gets you to some of the higher-end B-650 boards and even a few X670 options.

Fair point. When I think of high end I think of X670/E. B-series chipsets were always marketed at the mid-range and A620 at the entry level market.

Just not something I would associate with OP’s high end parts claim.

Well there are B-650 Options that I would consider quite premium and "High-End", I was just noting how because of the 7800X-3Ds low power draw, VRMs basically don't matter. Even the cheapest A620 boards can handle the 7800X-3D, although I would never suggest such a cheap board for such a premium CPU and build.
