EXPO with Ryzen 7 7800x3d

Bowjangls

I want to start this off by saying, my overclocking experience is turning on DOCP on am4, that's it. I tried to use EXPO on my new build but when I try to use it or set the ram times manually it will sit at a blank screen and turn on the cpu and dram trouble lights on the motherboard. I have seen posts saying something along the lines of "training the memory" or something like that. TLDR I don't know what I'm doing on am5 apparently, how do I run my ram at 6400 with the pc actually turning on and working?

Try setting the timings, voltage, and clockspeed manually. That's, as far as I know, the same as turning on EXPO/XMP/DOCP.

Don't tell me to upgrade. I would've done so if I could.

What's your RAM kit like?

If you're trying to run 4 DIMMs, it's notoriously unstable and the recommendation is to rather run 2 bigger capacity ones.

I've gotten to know some stuff, but am far from omniscient, so don't take my advice as gospel and wait for other opinions - I just like throwing in my two cents when I can.

You are unlikely to run 6400 without issues or manual tweaking. Try 6000.

I agree. @BowjanglsSet to 6000 and set timings manually. If you want to know a profile for that kit. Maybe try downloading aida64 and choose motherboard -> SPD. Here you can see some profiles, might also show one for 6000mhz. If not at least you know what IC's you're using and then you can find some timings that work.

Flash the latest Bios. Load Expo. Lower the frequency to 6000. Retest.

This is probably the easiest route to get working. When I went AM5 the general advice I was given was that 6000 was the sweet spot. I haven't tried going higher.

If the exact model/part number of the ram is given, maybe someone could give more specific setting advice. Ram changes all the time so it has to be the full part number, not just the short marketing name.

I'm not super pressed to get expo working, but if its easy enough to do I would like to get the extra performance, especially since it was marketed with expo.
