New IPhone - How to Transfer IPhone Contacts and Backup Wechat?

paulyron

Someone I know wants to use another iphone that they have.  Both of these iphones are old.  I believe it's the iphone 6 that they are using and want to use a iphone 6 plus.

When we put the sim card from the iphone 6 to the iphone 6 plus that they want to use, none of the person's phone contacts show up.  Is that normal?  I thought when you take a sim card from one iphone and put it to another, it would show that?  It doesn't.

The other thing is that person uses an app called wechat.  So I had downloaded wechat on the iphone 6s.  When that person logs into wechat, all the history and everything from the other iphone 6 that person uses doesn't transfer to the iphone 6s.  Now can someone tell me how they can transfer everything on wechat from the iphone 6 to the iphone 6s?  What about transferring the phone numbers?  You could manually type numbers in but of course that would take very long.  Does this involve backing up icloud and then transferring the icloud to this phone?  I have the person's icloud username and password.  What I would like to do is copy everything from the iphone 6 to the iphone 6s.  How do I do this?  If that works, does that mean you don't even need to download the apps on the iphone 6s?  For example, I had downloaded a few apps I saw on the iphone 6 that the person used.  However, isn't this person using the same icloud with this 6s as the 6?  What about the apple id?

Yup, the sim card is just authentication for a cell plan, doesn't have any data on it.

Normally I'd make a backup of the iPhone, then restore it on the new one. You can do this with a mac or PC

Is there a way to do this without having to connect the iphone to a laptop?

So how do I literally copy everything from the iphone 6 to the iphone 6s?  You can't do that?  So for example, a program like wechat, I still have to manually download wechat on the iphone 6s?  I thought if you do something with icloud from one phone to the other, it would make a copy of it on the new iphone.  So it doesn't?

Is there a way to backup the iphone 6 and then just copy it to the iphone 6s without cables?  I thought you could do that like log out of apple id or icloud on the older phone and log in that with the newer phone you want to use?

You can also backup to iCloud, but thats much slower typically and might mean you need to buy additional storage.

The Backup should copy most files, but you might need to login to wechat after and copy the files(check the wechat docs, I don't use that app)

So I just took a look at my iphone not related to their iphone but my iphone never could be backed up because I never paid that 99 cents am month to back it up.

I got to assume the same applies to that iphone 6 right?  So if you want to do this, you have to buy backup for this?

Right now, I want to transfer the name and phone numbers from the iphone 6 to iphone 6s.  So is there another option just for this?  For wechat, I read you could back it up by going in wechat and doing it and copying the qr code into the new iphone.  But what about transferring the name and phones numbers?  What about regular text messages?

I backed up the wechat by checking how to do this on wechat.

When I went to icloud on the old iphone 6, it showed about 4.2gb used of 5gb so the storage isn't used up.  However, it didn't seem to be backed up?  So I clicked on backup.  When I went to icloud on the iphone 6s, it shows I'm signed in the same icloud as well.  Is that normal?  However, why does it show anyone for contacts for phone?

I'm confused with how you do this.  Where is the option to merge it if that's what you are suppose to do?  I want to transfer the name and phone numbers from the iphone 6 to the newer iphone.

Can someone explain to me why I can't do the icloud method with the iphone 6 and iphone 6 plus?  The backup is like 4.2gb only.  Where is the button to back it up to the new iphone 6 plus?  The thing is ICloud is signed in both devices and it shows the 4.2gb in both phones as well.  So why doesn't it show any phone contacts on the iphone 6 plus?

How do you even airdrop it?  When I click on airdrop, you can't even choose the other iphone you when picking it?

I have no idea why the icloud thing doesn't work?  It is less than 5gb as the backup so what is the issue here?

Wechat has an internal backup utility... and iphones have a migration tool you can use when starting a new iphone the first time..  that works localy..

if you have games music and pictures on your old phone it will be too much.

the other thing is.. iphone 6 might be too old for the latest ios.. use a PC to make a backup and move to the new phone.
