Is this pc config good for the price and upgradeability????

Budget (including currency): As less as possible (less than $1400) AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General use, fortnite, cod warzone, forza horizon 5, cyberpunk

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I wanna play at like 1440p max and like a good frame rate like 120+ at 1080p mid settings maybe. My cpu that i want to use, bundled as a offer with my mobo is a i5 12600k and a Asus Prime b660m-a wifi d4 mobo. its a good deal from scorptec and i've basically got the cheapest and best deals on pc part picker au. Heres the specs:

don't include mouse and keyboard but include temu items. hdd i already have so its $0

Part Name Price Deal Name Deal Price
cpu: intel core i5 12600k deal Cpu + Mobo combo deal $434

(Dont mind the adapter, that's the temu stuff)You are on a much fresher platform, and you get a 6750xt which is a much better performing card, even beats the 4060TI. Sure, it's a previous gen card, but good luck playing games that demand more than 8 gigs of vram.

Ofcourse if you'd like to keep your combo deal....

add on 488(your combo price and the temu stuff) you get a price of 1404. Yes, I went over by 5 dollars, HOWEVER: you get a 7700XT, which absolutely kills that 4060, you get 32 gigs of ram instead of 16. Yes the CPU cooler is diffrent, but you don't really need a 240mm AIO for a 12600k, a good dual-tower cooler is more than enough.

There's little chance there will be a significant upgrade for a 12600k in the future, on that socket (while there is with AM5)

I'm willing to swim against the current.

Depends what you do on your desktop, I wouldn't notice such an upgrade.

What I really meant is, with AM5, I'd be in a position to maybe notice such a change, in the future

AMD is seen usually as the better deal for gpu as well.

And you'd better get 32GB of Ram (towards 6000CL30)

You can get by with 16GB, but you shouldn't keep many tabs open like I do.

Also consider buying used, I do, I just bought a 3070 used. My cpu is bought used...

Pretty sure it's the last cpu in the line up and socket. Also, a 14900k chugs a lot of juice... For the same performance as a 7800x3d in gaming for less juice. If you were doing creative stuff, yes 14900k is better, if you just game, get an am5 platform with a 7800x3d. oh and the added bonus of support up to 2027 for AM5, meanwhile 1700 is basically done now.

If you DO really plan on getting a 14900k, for your current case, you can only put a 280mm AIO. And if you plan on using it in more creative applications, you'd need a new case with atleast a 360mm.

Realistically, if you only care about gaming and not using your pc for creative purposes, am5 and 7800x3d will last you much better and longer than a 14900k(Mainly because you can swap your CPU to a future 9800x3d, and 7800x3d is like, 80w maximum? As opposed to the cpu that draws 250~w max)
