Anyone else have an Asus Prime AP201?

adamaquarius

Just wondering if anyone else has this case? And if so, what did you build in it?

What drew me to this case inparticular is its narrowness and front facing IO, perfect to sit on a repurposed IKEA monitor shelf that I keep under my desk.

This is my work in progress build.

It has an Asrock B550M Riptide motherboard (Important because of the included USB C header, a rarity on MATX B550 motherboards), an Arctic CPU air cooler + Arctic case fans, Ryzen 5 5600X (6C/12T), 32GB Corsair 3200MHz DDR4 RAM, Asus ROG 650W Gold PSU, 500GB Seagate Firecuda 530 SSD, 2 X 2TB WD Green HDDs and the GPU will be an Asus ROG RX 6700XT 12GB, but I'm waiting for that part to arrive in the post.

It's a mix of new and used components and cost me roughly £750 British Pounds Sterling, with the RX 6700XT taking up the biggest chunk of that at £250.

I've modded it slightly as I've relocated the PSU to the top of the case (With the fan facing inwards) and used two stackable Phanteks 3.5" HDD drive mounts on the front. All safely mounted with zip ties! 😄 (It's very sketchy but it works!)

Will add more photos once the GPU is in place and it's completely "complete" (Until I get an itch to upgrade again 😁)

A step above adhesive velcro, a step below JB Weld. Love to see it.

This is what the layout looks like without the HDDs in place and with a single standard 120mm fan in the front if anyone is interested. You can actually technically fit 2 Noctua NF-A12x15 fans on the outside of the case and still mount the mesh front panel on (And 2 x 140mmx15mm looked possible even, but possibly with some slight modifications), but I chose not to do that as I would have had a fan intake pointing towards the PSU exhaust, and didn't see the point in having an extra exhaust case fan there.

Heck yeah!

Can't wait to see the final product. No real mod counts as done unless it's got a few zip ties hidden around.

BTW the idea of the unusual layout and Phanteks 3.5" HDD mounts is finding a way to fit the most amount of HDDs inside of the case without affecting performance and other component compatibility.

Budget allowing I'm planning to fit a third Phanteks 3.5" HDD mount and HDD in the case. (They snap on top of each other without a need of tools, which is pretty cool! And would be WAY past what ASUS states the case officially supports)

3 bays seems like the maximum possible in this configuration without getting out a Dremel and hacking into the cable management thingabob + any more than that would severely restrict GPU compatibility.

This is what they look like snapped to each other:

images(2).jpg

The product name is "PH-HDDKT03", it looks like they were designed for a particular Phanteks case, but they had an over stock of them so they're now readily available and cheap now. I bought a pair off eBay for just £16. They're obviously designed for that particular case and abit of a pain in the ass to install in a case they're not designed for, but they're really high quality and worth the effort if you're creative I think.

Got my GPU in place, unfortunately there's abit of sag on the far end so I'll probably get a support bracket, but apart from that minor thing I'm very happy with how it's turned out.

Just get one of these...

Amazon.com: Graphics Card GPU Brace Support, Video Card Sag Holder Bracket, GPU Stand, L : Electronics

Also, WTF is going on with all those cables?  I haven't seen  PC needing that many since the 80's.
