My Xbox controller loses signal to my bluetooth dongle after about 10-15mins of use.

Johnnnyb

So just a heads up I've been using this controller and dongle for over 3+ years and have never had issues with it or my controller. I've only noticed just recently that my dongle won't receive my controllers inputs after 10-15mins into playing a game.

So here's what I do step by step:

First, I insert my rechargeable batteries (I don't use the official xbox battery pack because for some reason I've had issues where the connection wouldn't keep a consistent connection with them).

Second, a boot up the controller, and it connects without a hitch.

Third, I boot up my game of choice.

Forth, After about 10-15mins the game no longer responds to my inputs. Furthermore, the controllers light doesn't blink either (indicating it lost connection) meaning it's still connected.

Fifth, (And this is the oddest to me) If I Alt+Tab out of the game and back in the controller works again. This never fails it's consistent it happens in every game I tried.

I've tried updating windows, cycling the controller off/on and updating to the latest firmware, but nothing seems to work.

Not sure if this was obvious or not but

  • Drivers
  • Happen with another Bluetooth device connected to this same adapter?
  • Happen with this controller connected to another adapter? (or a phone/tablet/laptop)

One setting to try, is disabling "allow the computer to turn off this device" for the controller. I'm on a work computer that's pretty locked down right now, and this might have changed depending on the version of windows, but I believe to get there:

In Device Manager, find your controller in human interface devices right click it, properties > power management (or something similar) > disable allow the computer to turn off this device

Also, maybe you already have, but try your dongle in different ports. Switch from USB 2.0 to 3.0 or vice versa, etc.

Annoying for sure though. Good luck.

I've used this controller on our family laptop and I typically have to repair the controller in order to connect it back to my gaming pc. So maybe that is the issue.

I'll try this too.

I tried this and it seems to still happen and it appears to be not even the dongle nor that setting idk if I missed something, but it just continues to happen.
