What Air Cooler for a ryzen 5700x3D

C0stanza

Hey all, first time buying an aftermarket cooler and I’m unsure of exactly how the process works.

I’ve looked on ebay and have seen a bunch of Noctus nh-d15s listed for $60-$70 so I was gonna pick up one of those used. That being said I don’t know much about air coolers and if theres a better deal to be had I figured I’d ask.

Also, if I go used do I need to pick up a bracket for an AM4 socket separately?

Thanks in advance

Peerless Assassin SE120 is plenty enough for the 7800X3D 🙂

Its half the price of a used NH-D15 while performing very equal

AM4 goes quite far back so an AM4 bracket should follow a used NH-D15.

If its from before the AM4 days it might not include the bracket for AM4. I got the AM4 version of the NH-D15 myself, for the soul reason that I couldn't find one that included the bracket at the time. You can get that from Noctua though. I would honestly just get a peerless assassin 120 instead.

Depends on when it was manufactured. But, you should be able to see in the listing if the item includes the appropriate mounting hardware, or you can ask the seller if it's included. That's usually what I do when I buy used.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

It is one of the best air coolers there is. You have to spend a lot of $ to see a 1-2 °C improvement. If you really need more cooling (you don't), the next step would be 360mm water cooler. Or maybe that new Noctua $150 air cooler or something extreme like that.

What matters more is that you have a well ventilated case. Not just for the CPU, but for all components (VRM, caps, SSD etc.)
