Custom Keyboard Wood

Xuron93

Hello everyone!

Im currently looking to "build" my own keyboard.

Heared alot about custom keyboards and wanted to give it a try myself, but felt kinda overwhelmed by all the input im getting.

Do all the cases fit every keycap set?

I want the "QWERTZ" layout and dont need the numerical keypad.

Ideally the outer "shell" of the keyboard is wood, aswell as all the keys.

I would really like to put in the switches and keycaps myself.

Also buying from an online store in the EU would be perfect.

Hope that someone can help me finding what im looking for :).

Thanks for everything!

Xuron

You're better off buying wood veneer and gluing them yourself.

This would also make it easier to match with wooden keycaps since you can decide on the veneer after you find suitable keycaps.

You can just check on Google or Amazon for them.

Nearly all keycaps are a standardized size. It gets complicated when working with the modifier keys because the CTRL, ALT, WIN, SHIFT, and Spacebar can be different sizes from brand to brand.

With regards to QWERTZ layout, you should check out Keychron's website and search for your region. They have multiple subsites for specific regions.

Wood keyboards do exist, but not in ISO-DE. A recent example: https://www.hexology.design/pages/gwydd-65

But you can also find some on amazon. Easiest way is probably to get the dimensions of a simple 65% keyboard that also supports ISO layout and make the wood case yourself. Regarding keycaps, I would google or look at amazon. As long as it state Cherry MX compatible, it should be fine with regular mechanical switches.

Ive searched for hours today and i really seems like im out of luck finding a decent 80-100% keyboarch in full wood.
Ill prolly settle for a normal aluminum case and buy some wood keycaps.

Thanks for the help tho!
