Whats the best for 1k - 2k gaming PC? AMD or Intel | AMD or NVidia

Budget (including currency): 1000€ - 2000€

Country: Germany

Games like Wukong, Eldenring, Planet Coaster, City Skylines, but also CAD and Entertainment

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to build a new PC but I'm not sure whether to go with AMD or Intel for the CPU, and the same dilemma goes for the GPU – Nvidia or AMD? My budget is between €1000 and €2000, and the PC will be primarily used for gaming and CAD work.

Since both my wife and I will be using the PC, the types of games vary quite a bit. We play a lot of shooters, but also simulation games. 4K isn't a must, but it would be nice to have the option. I want the build to be somewhat future-proof, so I'm looking to invest more in parts that aren't easily upgraded (like CPU or motherboard). The easily swappable parts (like GPU or RAM) don't need to be top-tier right away but should still be decent.

What would you guys recommend for a Gaming + CAD setup?
Looking forward to your suggestions!

Thanks,
Tomtom5893

In both cases, AMD gives you more value for money. But the gaps have closed and for some use cases it's better to choose Intel and/or nVidia instead.

In the recent Scrapyard Wars series, Linus and Luke demonstrated it's possible (again) to build a decent gaming system for 500 USD. I imagine with some work you can get a similar result in Germany for 500€. That means you can dedicate the remainder of your budget to a decent CAD system instead. Alternatively, consider AM4 over AM5, especially as RAM is pretty tricky on the latter and for CAD you need as much as you can get. Having said that, it's worth noting the Zen4 cores on the AMD AM5 platform are more efficient then their Zen3/AM4 counterparts, so that's a consideration you really need to think about.

Edit: I know some cad work can be cuda accelerated, use a nvidia card if its one of those work flows. Though I also know some of those workflows require quadro or firepro
