Memory Requirement for Ryzen 7 5800x

sams7

Gentlemen,

I am putting together a new pc to replace my current Intel i7 4th gen computer

Will run only Win10 and dual boot with Linux - Some Gaming - More video editing - and mostly LLM

And NO RGB or overclocking

This is the list of items I am including (all from AMZ) -

Ryzen 7 5800x

Samsung 980Pro NVME

MSI MAG Tomahawk B550 B08B4V583Q

Corsair RM1000x PSU - Can I go down to 850watt to save a bit? since GPU needs 450watt

Gigabyte Aero OC 8G RTX 4060

I am stuck in Memory - Honestly I'm lost and what to pick and I would like to include 72GB (4x16) - NO RGB - And not to exceed USD 150 for the 72GB

I am looking at the following or similar

Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz CL16 Intel XMP 2.0 Computer Memory - Black (CMK32GX4M2E3200C16)

G.Skill Ripjaws V Series (Intel XMP) DDR4 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MT/s CL16-18-18-38 1.35V Desktop Computer Memory UDIMM - Black (F4-3200C16D-32GVK)

So Questions are as follows

1- Opinions on the above chosen and any improvement recommendations

2- Any compatibility issues

3- Can I go down to 850watt to save a bit? since GPU needs 450watt

4- And as previously mentioned what memory

Appreciate your expert opinions

Thank you

Sam

The 4060 does not need 450w.. Where did you read this?

The 4060 draws only 115w..

I use a 750w with my RTX 4080.

Change your cpu to a Ryzen 7 5700X. Look for 2x16GB DDR4-3600 CL18 or 2x16GB DDR4-3200 CL16. Look for a ATX 3.0 750W power supply so that you can upgrade later on if you so choose.

That means a 450w PSU is enough for the GPU and the rest of the system ( unless you run a 14900K of course ) 🙂  Not that the GPU itself requires 450w.

The RTX 4060 only draws 115w at 100% load.  It can't exceed this.

My RTX 4080 has a max power draw of 320w 🙂

You can easily run your entire system on a solid 650w and this gives room to spare.

Get 2x32GB instead of 4x16, Ryzen runs better on 2 sticks vs 4. 3200Mhz CL16 is decent speed 🙂

As mentioned above, a solid 750w is plenty for this system and leaves room for a solid GPU upgrader later.

I dont know what your PSU budget is but the MSI MPG A750GF is a great and reliable 750w PSU with 10 year warranty.

Compatability wise it all looks good.

4x16 is 64GB, not 72.

system power yeah. that's total. and an estimate.

the card doesn't draw more than 130w even overclocked.

that said you should get 650w minimum power supply... never cheap out on psu...

corsair rmx is a good choice.

memory i recommend gskill , not corsair,  or Samsung OEM if you can find them (best for ryzen tbth)

The direction tells you... the direction
