Opinion on list wanted

Mqisty

I asked the PCPartPickers forum to help me with a list and wanted another forum's opinion. I am planning on selling my GPU, CPU, and MOBO from my (7 year old) current build.

List they made: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zQFVh3

Budget (including currency): $1000

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I play a lot of competitive games like VALORANT but I would also like to play newer AAA titles. I had Cyberpunk 2077 a while ago but refunded it because I struggled to run it well.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): N/A

I do love the 7700X, used it for a year before an amazing MC sale got the 7800X3D.  So with the new uplift in 7800X3D pricing... it's a great bundle, happy for you that live near one.  Being one of The Chosen is nice.

I can't see anything wrong with it, and while not a huge fan of NZXT parts... it looks good.  If you can stretch, I'd get a 7900GRE as it's worth the price upgrade over the 7800XT if you want to rock 1440p.

Make sure to PBO/CO the 7700X to help it stretch a bit more.  Cooler will do for now.

I wouldn't even worry about getting a new psu, the EVGA unit you currently have is a great unit and has plenty of power for your new build. If you save that money from the PSU you could use the left over to upgrade to the 7900GRE and get more out of your system.

Sorry I should've said this in the post, most of my parts other than the RAM, cooler and M.2 are 7 years old. Which is why the person suggested ewasting my PSU and getting the new one.

It's got a 10 year warranty, so EVGA thinks it'll last at least that 🙂  I'd keep it, as it does have plenty of power for the 7800XT or 7900GRE.

A good unit is a good unit regardless of how old it is. I have a 750 G2 that I have reused in 3 different systems and I'll keep reusing it until it's just not enough power anymore.

EVGA makes amazing units and I would put them up there really darn close to Seasonic.

It just went out of warranty, and apparently I put the wrong version on the part picker list. I'm not sure if this changes anything

Honestly nah, doesn't change a thing. They made improvements from the G1 to the G2. G2 series is probably the best ones they ever made and they're on the A-tier list per this forum. I really think you're good and should keep that unit going. Go check out the tier list yourself here on the forum if you want to see for yourself and compare.

I'm honestly confused what this list is, you replaced the absolute steal that the Micro Center bundle was for a pretty significantly worse CPU (from aliexpress) for only $40 less without explaining any of the changes.

I don't understand his commetn about a GPU with a year or two worth of wear.  We are talking about a new GPU.

His opinion on the PSU is valid.  It can shit anytime between today and 1000 years from now 🙂  I personally would use it, as it is a good unit (in a vacuum).    7 years isn;t that long for a PSU.   The warranty statement isn't correct, as many companies have products that last far beyond their warranty periods.

If you want a new unit, there are quite a few good ones under $100.

I can only share what I would do.  I am putting my 6900XT into my EVGA Supernova P2 650w machine, and expect it to last and perform without issue.

Always a good idea.  Though there is nothing wrong with a PSU + 7800XT build either.

Regardless you'll have a very nice machine 🙂

I'd still use the PSU. I've got 2 Corsair PSU's. One's about 11 years old and another one about 7 years old. The thought of not using it cause it's old just wouldn't register. When its own the way out, you'll either hear it or it'll go silent into the night as there will be no life from your PC one day as you press the power button to turn it on.

100% another viable option and one I'd lean toward as well most likely, depending on wallet.

I didn't pay much attention to the motherboard you had, just focused on the 1700 you were coming from.

Can't go wrong either way
