why does red of my rgb strip look very dull. used for monitor backlight

300DaysToGTA6

We kinda need more info. Pics would help as would make and model of your specific strip
It's possible that the built in electronics are dying, or that there is a setting you haven't/misconfigured

Yeah this is too general. Need more info.
Just look on Aliexpress there are at least 1000 different kind of unknown brand ones. So be precise send pics.
In short, HELP US HELP YOU! Info info info, you cannot give enough.

As an owner of many strips and controllers, i can say this is not the case with most of mine.
Red is a pretty bright color and needs the least power to run well, so its usually brighther, unless a good controller balances it properly. (so all full will give white color)

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

TL:DR
Red LEDs emit similar optical power to other colors, but because the human eye is less sensitive to red light, it appears dimmer.
For it to not appear dimmer compared to other colors it would have to shine brighter, thus it would require more power...
Many cheap LED strips do not compensate for this difference in perceived brightness.

From what I've obsereved yes, but the difference is a lot more subtle, I wouldn't call red as "very dull".
Take some pictures, maybe you just got a defective one.

Cannot say i agree with this statement. That red LEDS are minimally less bright/dull. (paraphrasing)
Ive found the opposite more true. That red is too bright. Maybe my eyes are just ^&*(#ed. 😄

Red leds are electronicly lower power use and therefore brighter on lower specced controllers.
As you can read on this site, the forward voltage for Red leds is 1,6V and for blue thats 2,4V (generally, they can differ).
So its somewhat logical that the cheaper controllers overpower the red leds, making up the balance from our built in human un-sensitivity. (Maybe also why its now dimmer, overpowered red for a while and is now 'broken')

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

Yeah, I've edited my original reply as it was making too many assumptions on very limited input by the op,
it was also overcomplicated and not through enough at the same time.

Well i did agree with most of it.
And the info about eye sensitivity was very interesting.

They could just be crap.
It takes a bit of extra effort to program it such that all colours are balanced, maybe cheaper brands not taking that time?
