Feedback on my parts list?

Thanks, I have a few questions. The store I'm buying from (Inet) isn't available on PPP for whatever reason, so the prices might be more difficult to find for someone in another country.

  • Why the Peerless Assassin instead of the Phantom Spirit, like they suggested above?
  • The motherboard and RAM you chose are more expensive than the ones I chose at the store I'm buying from, why those in particular?
  • That SSD isn't available at the store I'm buying from, would a Corsair MP600 Core XT 4TB work instead? On a discount at 2999 kr.
  • Like I said, I'm waiting for the 50 series from Nvidia, I don't want that GPU.
  • I chose that case because I like the look of it, that other case looks too different.
  • I don't want to gamble on 850W being enough for the 50 series GPU. The RM1000x are almost the same price as the one on my list.
  • How are the noise levels for those fans compared to the Noctua ones? I really don't like noise.

I've put a GPU to show that with the budget you can get a PC as good as yours *and* a fine GPU

Now if you're waiting for 50 series you may as well wait to buy the rest, unless a new pandemics occurs tech always get better and/or cheaper - except for NVidia GPU lol

Regarding the other points :

  • Why the Peerless Assassin instead of the Phantom Spirit, like they suggested above?

Both are good, close in price and performance, I chose the PA which was first in the pcp list, get any of them

  • The motherboard and RAM you chose are more expensive than the ones I chose at the store I'm buying from, why those in particular?

For the board it's weird the Gigabyte Elite is always cheaper than the Asus Strix usually, so either your store sells the first overpriced or has a good deal on the second. Both are good and the Strix is better

  • That SSD isn't available at the store I'm buying from, would a Corsair MP600 Core XT 4TB work instead? On a discount at 2999 kr.

MP600 is fine, else look at a SN850X. Samsung 990 are overpriced and anyway in RL all Gen4 SSD perform about the same

  • I chose that case because I like the look of it, that other case looks too different.

Ok, but it's really overpriced

  • I don't want to gamble on 850W being enough for the 50 series GPU. The RM1000x are almost the same price as the one on my list.

Unless you're specifically aiming the 5090 a 850W PSU will be fine. If you need 1000W rather get either the Corsair RM1000e or the TT Toughpower GF/GF3 1000W

  • How are the noise levels for those fans compared to the Noctua ones? I really don't like noise.

Arctic P12 are fine, I use them and used P14 as well, and at case fan speed (700-1000 rpm) they're quite silent. It's really a waste to buy $30 apiece fans for a case, you don't need as much performance than for a cooler, they just have to be decent. Plus Arctic PST fans are cool you can daisy chain them. But with 5 of them you may also get a fan hub for better looking cable management

Budget (including currency): Roughly 25k SEK for the PC (not including the GPU, I'm planning to use my old 1660Ti while I'm waiting for the 50 series to be released).

Country: Sweden

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mainly single player games like Baldur's Gate 3, Dragon Age Veilguard and maybe Cyberpunk 2077 (haven't actually played it yet, but want to try with a newer PC).

Other details:  I put together a PCPartPicker list, but I'm planning to buy at least the PC parts from a store not on that site (Inet). The plan is to replace the included case fans (I read that the included ones aren't very efficient) with the 140 mm ones (three front intake, one back exhaust) and add the 120 mm one to the front of the cooler.

  • I added a mouse that I've been eyeing, but I'm open to suggestions.
  • I'm looking for a quiet keyboard, Nordic layout, preferably full-sized, if possible wireless, if possible white so that it matches the mouse (clearly the most important aspect). I've looked at Logitech's G715, but I don't like that it's TKL.
  • I've been looking for some headphones, but I'm not sure where to begin other than wireless and not too Gamer™-looking. My headphone/headset-budget is roughly 2500 SEK.

Thanks in advance! It'll be my first build, I've only replaced parts before, so I'm a bit nervous.

Its a great build but you are definitely overpaying for the CPU cooler and motherboard.

You can save around 2000 Swedish KR while keeping the same performance by going with a different CPU cooler and motherboard.

I've considered the Phantom Spirit but read that the fans were noisy, does anyone have a better impression?

Do you have a suggestion for a good motherboard? I looked through some specs, and I want

  • Gen 5 on the PCI express slot since I'm planning to use a 50 series GPU (I don't know if it'll need it, but it doesn't seem like a good idea to take that chance).
  • One gen 5 M.2 (not planning on using it for now, for a possible future upgrade) and preferably another at least gen 4 connected to the CPU.
  • That RAM (CMK32GX5M2B6000Z30) on the QVL-list.

Is there anything I can skip? I guess the gen 5 M.2?

Yeah, for gaming a Pro drive doesn't benefit at all.  Gen 5 future proofing is a water, as any gen 3 is unnoticed vs 4, and 5 will be the same.

A much cheaper cooler is a good call.

You can save on motherboard too.  Gen 5 is a waste, period.

Plus, get the normal North.  The XL is for mounting a 360 on top basically.

Basically don't pay now for a maybe in the future, unless you got extra cash.  Since you can't afford a GPU yet, you don't have extra cash.

The Phantom Spirit is a good cooler and the fans won't have to run very fast with the 7800X3D, its very easy to cool 🙂 Just make a custom fan curve.

I am a sucker for Noctua though, I have an NH-D15 myself on my 7700x.  I run my NH-D15 at a constant 23% fanspeed.

RTX 5000 won't take advantage of PCIE 5.  A 4090 is barely taking advantage of PCIE 4 compared to PCIE 3, and PCIE 4 is twice the speed of PCIE 3.  We are talking 3-5% faster on average on PCIE 4.

I plan on using a 5090 in my own ASUS TUF B650 PLUS WIFI with PCIE 4.

Okay, what should I look for in an SSD?

Have Nvidia confirmed they won't use PCIE 5 for their next GPUs?

I chose the XL one because I don't know how large the GPU will be, and it's not that much of a difference in price.

I have the money for it, I just don't see why I'd buy a GPU now only to replace it in a few months?
