The problem is that these improvements really show themselves in several years when the OS gets more bloated with background processes. They make no difference in the day-to-day.

We're not going to get anything revolutionary like the switch to NVMe (iPhone 6S introduced it) because the improvements to opening apps faster are all measured in milliseconds lol.

I'm not sure iOS qualifies as a bloated OS, but I'm also no expert.

Interesting tidbit: the new AirPods 4 (both the base model and the ANC model) support the H2-to-H2 5GHz ultra-low-latency lossless communication when paired to the Vision Pro, just like the AirPods Pro2.

Basically now all the AirPods (4, 4 ANC and Pro2), except the AirPods Max (I don't think they can be worn together with a Vision Pro to begin with?), are ready for the (supposed) spatial computing future.

Imagine a 1799$ Vision headset in late 2025 that drops the built-in temple speakers as a cost-cutting measure, used together with low-latency 5GHz base AirPods 4.

They always release iPhone SE models outside of their main event which highlights their flagship iPhones. I think they released SE models in spring every time. So, expect that refresh mid of the year cycle in spring for the new SE model when talk about flagships quiets down a bit.

oh i did not know this. thanks for the information!

The new SE (probably next spring) will be an iPhone SE for the ages.

OLED display

FaceID (still unmatched 7 years after the iPhone X)

the A18 with 8GB of RAM

Apple’s new in-house 5G modem

action button

iPhone 14-like overall design

48MP camera

That’s a flagship iPhone from just a few years ago, with the latest SoC inside.

It'll also be the first SE with "zoom" of sorts (really a crop, but it'll work well enough) if that's what we get.

I'm in the 16 Pro camp, but I could easily see this kicking the ass of every other mid-range phone in North America in terms of sales. Except for the Pixel 9a when it drops.

Will be sticking to my trusty 11, but I’m definitely liking iOS 18 on this thing. Performance is solid, and battery life somehow seems better than before.

My eyes see the past…

My camera lens sees the present…
