6GbI takes an hour with 5800x3d 16gb 3600Mhz RAM and 6000 MB/s M.2 ssd as main storage and a cheep SN570 500 GB M.2-2280 as OS storage.

Budget (including currency): 10000NOK (950USD ca.)

Country: Norway/Europe

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Im using a linux distro as main OS and want to game in a Windows VM because i want to learn. (yes i might be stupid but i still want to try.)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Im looking to upgrade something to be able to game on a VM in 1440p, Stream and record. So i guess im going from mid tier to high end? What should i keep and what do i need to upgrade to make this happen? Found my pc part picker list after writing this.

Well welcome to tinkering gaming vms, make sure you have two gpu processes.

It can be either igpu + gpu or two gpu's.

Otherwise vm gaming method would be fairly difficult without other gpu process.

I'm jank tinkerer if it works then it works.

Regardless of compatibility 馃惂馃枛

I'm thinking top line AM5 because its the newest and i don't need to upgrade for 3yr/s isj. witch is the upgrade line i am at now. But i feel i have more money than sense so i need some one to hold me back and teach me stuff.

Unfortunately i have not much experience about what hardware is better for such.

Top of the line motherboard is not bad idea for future proof, should work and i hope it's good motherboard that offers all features that VM needs.

However it would be wise to have one nvidia and one amd GPUs for easier configuration like blacklisting nvidia on host so that you can do passthrough.

Amd is best for Linux and nvidia is best for passthrough according my experience.

I've only succeeded Igpu+gpu configuration because i already have machine for it.

You can do with medium budget that has intel cpu with graphics and medium grade nvidia card to learn.

Then you can use that pc as server or media nas or smth afterwards you're confident to buy higher grade.

I'm jank tinkerer if it works then it works.
