How safe is buying used cooling components?

cadabri

Looking into potentially buying some used water cooling parts and I was curious how safe it is? Are there parts that are best avoided while others are safe? I also know mixing metals is bad, but what if a part was in a mixed loop in the past but is moved to a loop made of only one metal, will it continue to corrode?

Never had any issues buying used water cooling parts. Just make sure to flush out your radiators and clean your blocks.

Don't get used tubes or coolant I guess, that's about it.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Tubes and coolants are a huge nono. Also used fans are hit or miss arctic p series stuff is cheap and great.

Stuff with oring seals is fine as long as its not a decade old or so. So check the rings if they are still good also do maintenance when opening it since you need to open to check anyways.

Dont mix metals!!!!!!!! And just to be safe add a anti corrosive additive does not hurt at all and is a good safekeeping. To prevent any accidental continue corrosion or accidental metal mixing.

Avoid stuff where fittings directly screw into acrylic as that usually will have microcracks.

And most importantly DO NOT GET A CUSTOM LOOP IF JUST GETTING BETTER HARDWARE IS CHEAPER. If you got money yo blow or whatever sure why not.
