I have a Ryzen 3600 in a MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX motherboard with a 1660 Super for a GPU, all powered by a Be Quiet Pure Power 11  600 watt PSU.

It is becoming to feel a bit underpowered, so I've been thinking of upgrading. Now the question is, how much can I squeeze from this platform while keeping the mobo and the PSU?

I'm looking to spend about a thousand USD equivalent in local currency, but could go up to 2k if I were to rebuild from scratch.

Slap in a 5700X3D if you are gaming 🙂 Thats quite a decent uplift.

This will allow you to keep the motherboard, RAM and power supply!  Just update the BIOS on the motherboard.

The GPU I would say is the bottleneck here however and getting a faster graphics card will definitely help in gaming

In what way does it feel underpowered?

I suspect that it will be the 1660 Super that is holding you back more than the CPU. Buying a faster CPU might not improve performance in any meaningful way.

I also feel like you left out a lot of important info, such as what you plan on doing with your computer.

I definitely would like to see for myself how Cyberpunk 2077 looks with RT, but I mostly play competitive shooters and indie games. The former of which has not been feeling that great since CSGO was superseded by CS2. And neither does Deadlock, though that's probably largely just alpha things.

That's a great point, actually. I would probably like to reuse some/all of this PC for my wife's gaming needs.

A 5700X3D and a new graphics card will definitely breathe new life into this computer 🙂

If you are planning to use Cyberpunk RT alot then swap the 7800 XT out for a 4070. It is a bit more expensive. You could try to get the parts used to save money. I would use eBay if your going to do that.

My First PC
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
Cooler: Asus TUF Gaming LC240
