Is it possible to output audio only from hdmi port?

Yes you can output audio through your hdmi port. You have to make sure your monitor has build in speakers.

OP is asking whether they can use HDMI for audio only and use DisplayPort for the image. Basically connect both cables to their monitor and have the monitor use HDMI for sound and DP for visuals. Fairly certain that would only be possible if the monitor in question specifically had such a feature.

 

In general, if you select HDMI as the source, your monitor will use image (and possibly audio) from HDMI, if you select DP as the source it won't use HDMI for anything. That said, DP can transport audio—same as HDMI—and since it is also a digital signal there should be zero difference in quality. So not sure why you'd need such a feature?

If you plug your pc into a Soundbar via HDMI or a surround sound set up then you can send the audio to that device sure.

 

My monitor is Display Port with built in speakers but my audio is routed to my TV/Soundbar via HDMI

Go to Windows sound settings, and set the default to HDMI. Sorted! I'd go a step further, and disable every other sound device shown because Windows can and will do something stupid at some point.

 

If you wont always be using HDMI for audio, you might need to leave another one not disabled to fall back on.

hi,it can reduce latency in gaming experience if i output video through dp port to pc monitor and audio through hdmi to av amp.

i remember a 4k uhd player oppo 203 which has two hdmi output port one for video and other one for audio.

does the pc send pure audio only if i disable multi display on nvidia control panel for  hdmi output?
