whats a good speaker for my desktop?

Jonathannnn

Hi i am wondering what a good speaker would be for my desktop for mainly listening to music, watching youtube etc, as i really want to stop wearing headphones as much unless i am talking to people.

I was looking at the聽Razer Leviathan V2, which i know wont be the best sound quality or anything but its size looks pretty good and isnt that expensive.聽

but i would really like to find something that would have better sound quality then that.

thanks 馃檪

A budget and country would help a lot in our attempt to help.

Yep, budget and country. Pro tip, we're not going to suggest speakers from gaming peripheral companies. Speakers should come from speaker/audio companies. Lot of solid powered 2.0 desktop speakers in the $90-$150 US range if that's what you're looking for.

Ryzen 7 7800x3D -聽 Asus RTX4090 TUF OC- Asrock X670E Taichi - 32GB DDR5-6000CL30 - SuperFlower 1000W - Fractal Torrent - Assassin IV - 42" LG C2

He said he was looking at the Razer Leviathan V2 and this is $230 so maybe we can find something in that area?

If he meant the Razer Leviathan V2 X then this is a $85-$99 speaker / soundbar.

I totally agree that gaming speakers / peripherals are usually not worth going for.

I remember Logitech had some nice 5.1 systems 20 years ago馃槃

What kind of desk space do you have free? JBL 305's go for very cheap used in uk, but having some great active bookshelves won't be ideal if you don't have the desk real estate for them

Provide a picture of your desk if you're comfortable.

Typically good speakers are not from gaming brands, and they take up quite a bit of desk space.

For your budget I would recommend the Yamaha HS3.

If you're using a desktop computer, use the rear "Line Out" or "Front Speaker Out" port to connect to the speakers.

If you're using a laptop, I would also recommend picking up a USB-C dongle so that you can get a clean output.

Alternatively, you could pick whatever Edifier speakers are within your budget.聽

You really need to list out all constraints before people waste their time giving you wrong answers.

Desk soundbars are not really common, so it is probably best to just go with Razer or any gaming brand that makes this form factor.

Personally I used a JBL Flip 4 Bluetooth speaker but wired up via 3.5mm port when I had limited desk space. It sounded more than enough for everything I needed and you'd be surprised by the bass response. Frustratingly, newer JBL Flips don't have 3.5mm inputs (and they're mono speaker now, sigh).

This Bluetooth speaker was a Wirecutter recommended pick in the past and it has a 3.5mm input. I don't know why it's significantly cheaper in the UK compared to USA, but that's good for you!

Active speakers not from a peripheral company is best.聽 I like edifier but have never owned their brand, just hear good things.聽 There is a micca self powered pair of speakers (RB42x I believe), I have the passive version that I use and love but have a very powerful amp driving them.

I understand your situation as I'd faced that same issue, when I snagged a 49" 32:9 monitor for my deskt. While I'd gotten a bigger desk with my present one, I find myself short of space for a pair of monitors, I had a pair of KRK Rokit5 Gen3 which I'd had to sell off. Tried a couple of soundbars, and LG one being the last before I'd found my ideal soundbar in the Philips Fidelio B97 (with detachable rear speakers).

Below is a pic of my present setup taken earlier this year, ignore the Bose speaker, I was using as a temp speaker for YT, I've since replaced it with some cheap speaker from China (Red Dragon) for similar usage scenario. I'd also gotten a pair of Creative T40 Series II speaker for my laptop, and honestly speaking, had I gotten them earlier, I'd not have gotten the Fidelio B97. The T40's can be placed on their sides, with control at front still easily within reach. They don't sound half bad actually, and I believe I'd have been perfect happy with the T40's in this usage scenario (games, music and movies).
