High CPU Temp at idle with new Fractal Torrent

Hi,
These are my specs for my computer:

  • Ryzen 7 7800x3d
  • X670-E Pro Wifi
  • 4x16gb G Skill RAM
  • Nvidia RTX 4080 Super
  • Arctic Liquid Freezer 360mm

I recently changed my case from a Lian Li O11 Dynamic to the Fractal Torrent. This is my current Fan Setup:

  • 1x 140mm Exhaust Fan (rear)
  • 2x 180mm Intake Fans (bottom)
  • 3x 120mm Intake Fans (front - AIO)
  • 3x 120mm Intake Fans (front - other side of AIO)

Somehow, my CPU is still getting to 65° C at idle...

The temperature was fine in the Lian Li so I am confused as to why the temperature is so how now. Maybe I configured something wrong? The fans are at maximum speed and connected to the HUB in the back of the case.

I was wondering if there is anything I might of done wrong or anything I should change? The AIO is five years old.

Might be worth noting, my GPU is at 25° idle.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

Yeah it's too hot, something is not installed correctly, it should be in high 40s at idle

How did you plug the LF fans and pump cables ? Can you check the pump and fans speeds ?

Maybe reinstall the CPU block and repaste as well

plastic peel at the bottom of the block's surface removed?

The LF fans are plugged together, if that makes sense. I have the same cabling like the guide:

The pump cable goes into the back of the Hub, into FAN1 where it's supposed to I think. I can't check all the fan speeds for every fan but I can see it for the AIO

I just set it as high as possible, I don't know if that affects the temperature

I put on paste a year ago. Maybe it's time to put on some new paste, will try that now

Yes, removed it. Maybe I need to clean the block?

Assuming you're using HWiNFO or Ryzen Master to get your temp reading, AND the CPU is truly at idle (1-3% usage at max), the block isn't properly mounted or if its an AIO, no water flow.

The Usage is currently at 10% and 55.4° C. Would be over the "idle limit". Still too hot? Might be overreacting then

There is no reason that your X3D should be that hot at idle.

Things to try:

  • Verify that you feel/hear vibrating from the pump.
  • AIO on the side on exhaust.
  • Turn off the side fans
  • Repaste the CPU

Please report what helps and what doesn't.

10% is not idle. Ryzen can easily spike up that high under usage like that.

Idle is idle.

Sorry for not responding.

So would you say that 10% at 55.4° C is okay? I never seen it go below 49.5°.  When I play games that use a lot of power, it stays at around 65°-70° and occasionally jumps up to 81° when playing games with mods or during a loading screen.

1. I hear vibrating, I sometimes hear the flow but I heard that’s not so good. Could be wrong though

2. It’s on intake, it pulls air in. All my fans are on intake EXCEPT the rear fan which is exhaust. Might be the issue there then

3. Was a little hotter with them off

4. Did that but temperature still the same

  1. Hearing the water is because of air in the loop. Which Liquid Freezer version is it? 2? How old is it?
  2. What results do you get if you flip the side fans to exhaust?
  3. When you mount the water block, how do you tighten it down? You should be following the same kind of kitty-corner pattern used for tires.  Can you provide a picture showing how the AIO is situated?

Might have dislodged some gunk in the transfer. Those units have or had a recall on them.
