linus in a 2020 video said 3gb 1060s only existed as crypto cards and none had graphics software installed unless u did it your self.

That statement wouldn't make any sense as 3GB cards weren't useful for cryptocurrency mining at that time. By 2020 Ethereum (the most popular GPU-mined cryptocurrency at the time) required more than 3GB VRAM.

Did you watch this video recently or is it something you remember from watching back in 2020? I don't recall the video you're talking about. Can you link to the video?

There was a card called the P106 which was a dedicated mining card that didn't have the same drivers or display outputs on the card which was based on the same GP106 die used by the GTX1060, but that was a 6GB card. LTT did a video in 2019 about the P106. Is this what you're thinking of?

i bought a 1060 3gb prebuild from best buy like 10 years ago for about 1,150.00 out the door. it had 16 gb ram and i think i7. i did put another 16 of ram in, so total of 32, but the mother board only allows use of like 27? max. which i was getting 180 fps in pubg on low graphics settings. i still do have it! but i now use a 3050 4 gb laptop with 16 gb ram,  cause me and my dog sleep in the car lol. i seen you say that no 3 gb 1060's exist in a video on youtube, (atleast not ones from factory with graphics software installed, and you could buy crypto mining cards *3gb 1060's* and install software) i got my from the factory and it had the software, so if possible, if i proved you wrong could you maybe help me and my baby girl cinnamon with a place to live or a better gaming laptop, i build cs 1.6 maps and levels and stream playing cs go and pubg and study college classes with hotspot. thanks! love you linus and linus tech tips!

Laptop GPUs are generally a fair bit weaker than their desktop counterparts.

Top one is the mobile configuration of the 3050, bottom link is the desktop variant. Not only does it have twice as much memory, it also has higher clock rates.

what was this about?
I don't think anyone's ever said that the 1060 3GB didn't exist.

Just that it's not the same GPU As the 6GB.  (The changes between the two were MUCH more significant than just dropping 3GB of RAM)

What specific video? I have a strong feeling that you misinterpreted what he said, because they have talked about the 3gb card a few times. (generally in a "don't buy this card" way)

Cards with only 3GB VRAM was a a bad choice at the time to get. Ignoring the other differences that made it a different card than the 6GB version.

It did/does exist, but it shouldn't have existed.

so im guessing since it has been a while since i seen the video, he was talking about what to do because of covid graphics card shortage, he was saying that you could buy a 1060 3gb because crypto miners where selling there old ones for really cheap, but didnt have software, and showed how to do it yourself. i think that during covid, i wasnt able to post here because there was a staff shortage possibly so i believe i sent a email about me owning a 3gb 1060, which buy the way i think was amazing! getting 180 fps in pub g, once i upgraded to 32 gb of ram.
