Building new Gaming PC

Budget (including currency): 2000$

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Purely gaming PC (no streaming)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Deciding to build a new PC and migrate from my 4+ year old gaming PC. I only use a Windows PC for games (no game streaming involved).

I'm also uninterested in overclocking and appreciate low noise levels.

I have put together this spec - https://pcpartpicker.com/user/NicolasSiver/saved/7Kbmxr

What do you think? Any feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

Nicolas

Hi Nicolas!

I'm looking through your parts list and it looks awesome! The only pointers I would have are:

  1. Your CPU looks great, just something to consider is with the Intel 13th and 14th gen instability issues. You may want to consider either going AMD or a high-end 12th gen chip.
Megathread for Intel Core 13th & 14th Gen CPU instability issues
    byu/GhostMotley inintel
  2. Your SSD looks great! Very reputable brand, just consider the size of your Steam/Xbox library. Will 2TB be enough?
  3. What games do you plan on playing? You may be able to roll with 16GB of RAM depending on what games you're playing. You may want to take a step back on the RAM and take a step up on your CPU.

Other than those few things, your setup looks great! Let me know if you have any corrections or need some clarification.

Thanks!

Warmest Regards,

Crayton

I'm a computer nerd.

Right now, I'm using a:

Framework Laptop 13 (Performance Model)

AMD Ryzen 7 7840U

16GB RAM

WD PC SN740 512GB Internal SSD

RZ616 WiFi 6E WiFi Card

AMD Radeon 780M Integrated Graphics

to be fair there is nothing that would stop this build from running. Id be concerned about a potential bottleneck between the 4080 and the 13400F. If pure gaming is what youre looking for i would suggest looking at the AMD 7800x3D and Trading off the graphics with maybe a standard 4080 or the 7900XT

Something more like this:

Thank you for sharing the link. It looks like that 13400F not impacted with this issue? Am I missing something?

Update from August 30, about what models are not impacted:

Quote

Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen i5 (non-K) & i3 desktop processors

It should be enough. Also, I will pull one or two SSDs from my old PC. In general, I keep installing only a few games.

I play most mainstream games and revisit some that I have played over the years (e.g., the Total War series). My current gaming PC has 16 GB. Considering that it is not that expensive, upgrading to 32 GB should be good enough to future-proof the PC for the next few years.

Are there any publicly available bottleneck tests?

This is the site I use. Based on your specs it is coming back with a 35-40% bottleneck.

Considering the bottleneck data (and challenges with Intel CPUs), I decided to rebuild to the AMD platform. It pushed my budget a bit, considering that I want a 4080 Super. What do you think?
