HOW TO CONFIGURE ASUS HYPER M.2 CARD WITH ASROCK AB350 PRO4 MOBO

I bought an Asus hyper m.2 card hoping to add some m.2 slots and add more storage. I have 3 m.2 drives installed, but only one shows up. I am using an ASRock board so I wasn't sure if this could create any configuration headaches. I was looking for a bifurcation setting in BIOS and saw this in the picture below. Will this setting effect my GPU x16 slot? How do I configure this properly?

What slot is the card in? You need that 4 m.2 slot in the top card to use all 4 ports, and that means you have to run your GPU from the chipset, hurting performance a good amount.

 

Those 4 m.2 cards aren't really made for am4/am5/1700 and don't really make sense for most uses.

I have it in the second x16 slot since my gpu is in the first x16 and I wouldn't want to lose gpu performance. Does this mean it can only be used with one m.2 drive if I use that second x16 slot?

The second x16 slot is actually a x4 slot. So you can only use one ssd with that slot. You need to use the top slot to use all 4 m.2 drives on there.

That mobo is so bad ( that’s why I hate AM4 )

 

you have only one M.2 slot PCIe 3.0 x4 

and if you use it it’s disables the PCIe4 ( as they share lanes )

second M.2 slot is only a sata ahci slot

 

so you are left with 4 slots of PCIe 2.0 x1  ( around 350-380MBps max speed ) 

They are usable to run M.2 NVMe SSD, but sequential speeds are bad 

if 350MBps is enough for you for storage etc, you can use them

you need a PCIe x1 to M.2 adapters (like this verticale one https://www.amazon.com/Sintech-NGFF-PCIe-Adapter-Samsung/dp/B07F1J7S3F )

 

( and you can use all the ports that aren't covered with gpu ( so 3 or 4 slots, depending how big your GPU is )

Only other option is to buy a pcie switch and use it in PCIe4 slot ( but it’s like 180$ ), you would have all you m.2 ssd nvme in it ( as m.2_1 would be disabled.

Thanks for the info! I bought the ASUS hyper off eBay for cheap so not too heart broken about it. I bought it in the first place too because both my m.2 slots were killed by a faulty HP m.2 drive years ago. I work at a repair shop and maybe could fix the slots if its just a blown cap near the slots, but felt like too much effort for my own computer and time lol

well, you can use it, to check if the pcie4 is ok ( just use some sacrificial m.2 ssd nvme ), as pne ssd in first slot should be working
