4k vs 1440p?

Hendricks3

I have a big concern. Currently i have a 32” 1440p VA monitor from a few years ago and was looking to upgrade to build a multi purpose setup for gaming at high refresh rates and video/photo editing. And was thinking is it better a 4k high refresh rate ips monitor or just an ips 1440p high refresh monitor? Mainly due that ill be photo/video editing on mac/ipados and i know that macos and ipados dont play nice with 1440p res. Any thoughts. Thanks.

I would keep the monitor and try it out. You can always get a second monitor later on, if it turns out 1440p isn't good enough for video editing. For gaming 1440p has the advantage that you can get away with a less powerful GPU. High refresh 4K is much harder to drive.

Doesn't change my recommendation. Keep the monitor you have, get a second monitor for video editing.

Since you have a 1440p monitor currently, you should be able to see whether 1440p works for you when video editing. If it doesn't, get a 4K monitor as your second monitor. Otherwise, get a second 1440p monitor. If you go with 4K, you can video edit and even game at 4K, if performance allows, and continue to use 1440p for more demanding titles or simply as a side monitor.

Sounds like a plan, thanks. Though i know monitor may not perform visuals wise since va is not really a good technology for content creation

For productivity, at 4k there's way more free real estate on the screen that you can see at any given time. Sort of invaluable for video editing, development and so on. Whilst 1440p is nice, 4k has really been the only thing that gets a wow factor from me.

The LG 27GR93U-B is a good allrounder for 32" 4K 144Hz, basically offering everything but HDR.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
