Vignetting on Odyssey g9

Unrated1230

So i got my second g9 a few days ago and I am noticing that the bottom of the screen is a bit darker than the rest. Its like a horizontal stripe going across the entire display. I have already sent one back because of a few dead pixels which i think had the same issue but im not 100% sure.

Just so you know what i am talking about it kinda looks like this, but its not quite as bad. In the comments they talk about it being normal on most ips panels but the g9 should have a va panel.

Since i got a c49 which doesn't have this issue at all, i just wanted to know from somebody else who might got one of these if this is normal and maybe caused by the more aggressive curve?
Thanks :)

Oh yeah these crapboxes are know to fo that.

Its one of those keep sending it back till you get a good one the qc on these is terrible and review units are for sure hand picked.

It is a moving line? Like it vibrates? Thats a common issue. If its a stuck line thats a row of dead/dying pixels

Yep, exactly this.

Honestly, if you still can, you should return it, get an Alienware or LG Ultragear. Besides the G9 49" OLED Samsung has major QC issues with their super ultrawides.

My experience if you want to read it, it's a little long.

Unfortunately, I was one of the people that jumped on the G9 bandwagon. Bought a G9 Neo 49", had power issues, they sent a tech out three times replacing stuff before he finally came back a forth because he couldn't figure out the power issues with a brand new unopened one. He unboxed it to make sure it was good and it had dead pixels. He took it back and said he'd bring another brand new one out the next week. Luckily I still had my old monitors to use in the mean time. I got a message from the warranty service 2 weeks later after contacting them that I can't get ahold of the tech anymore and they said he was no longer working for them. They also said they didn't have any Neo 49" models to send out to me. So they, as a way to say sorry, upgraded me to the Neo 57" which had to be shipped via freight and took 2 1/2 weeks. But hey, a monitor that was double the price of the one I originally bought and brand new, hell yeah. Hell no, when it arrived it had dead pixels, a massive cluster in the bottom left had corner of the display so while gaming it wasn't really noticeable unless the game had a mini-map there. They said they'd need to ship another new one via freight again, and they'd have the freight company take the old one. Keep in mind these monitors especially the 57" are not easy to keep taking down and remounting to a monitor arm over and over again and repackaging all the time. After about a month of using the 57" and not hearing anything from Samsung about when the freight company would be delivering the second new one, regardless of me reaching out or not I noticed the pixel cluster was gone, I tried everything to fix it hopping they were just stuck when it first arrived. Guess it just needed some time. This was 6 months or more ago and Samsung still hadn't responded to me or let me know when the new one is coming, as far as they knew I still had dead pixels and probably think I gave up on getting it resolved. I messaged them maybe a month ago and said to forget it, never got a reply after that one either. I lucked out and have one with zero issues now, though I am worried every time I boot up that the dead pixel cluster will be there again.

The odyssey g7 and g9 lineup had a 40%+ return rate at the retailer I subbed at it was FUN 😄

Thanks for your detailed answer. My problem is that i kinda need an lcd panel since I’m doing some productivity work like coding and i don’t want to risk the burn in. As far as i can tell this is kinda the only option especially in this price range(I got it for 750€). Are there even non oled 240hz 49 inch monitors?

No it’s a static line it almost looks like the backlight just doesn’t light it up all the way / It doesn’t reach down all the way? Pixels are fine it’s just a bit darker.

Ah ok that defect yeah send it back yours is another of the busted ones. Thats still a known issue with these.

Any reason you are going super ultrawide and not just a couple of screens?

If you really need one just keep rolling the dice and hope you get a good unit eventually or till they stop allowing you to return it.

I already got one pre odyssey branding 49 ultrawide which sits above the odyssey g9. So a smaller monitor would just not fit in and 2x27 monitors would also not fit under it because if I arrange them to exactly sit flush from edge to edge I would have the bezels where they both meet right in front of me.

Are the qd oled Samsung monitors better in regards to qc? Because at this point it might be smarter to live with the burn in after a few months. As @SpookyCitrus mentioned setting these monitors up and after that putting them back into the box is kinda annoying so an alternative that just works would be cool.

A bit still gotta do the lottery. Best to do with these is take the display out of the box and just put it on the floor or something on it's back, turn it on, inspect VERY well and then see if it's good to go.

Samsung gaming monitor qc is honestly just bad had to deal with that even before the oddesey lineup existed when the curved stuff was new. SO MANY RETURNS mostly due to insane backlight bleed and vingetting but also actual defects. On a curved screen those 2 are usually a given unless theres a crapton of dimming zones or it's like oled lit and stuff.
