Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite - Updating bios to anything newer than F37 not working

Go to solution Solved by Cheesebaron,

OK, some breakthrough!

Flashed a new vbios on my graphics card as it was running the F2. Gigabytes own tool doesn't seem to work so used nvflash. Need to flash the other bios too I guess, since I only flashed the silent side.

So ended up being the vbios not being compatible somehow.

I've tried previously as well updating the bios to F39, yesterday I tried F40, hoping that it would work, but it doesn't seem like it.

Checksum matches when looking in QFlash and the website.

After flashing the bios on the motherboard, it fans spin up, lights on the motherboard are on and after a short while graphics card fan spin down. However, CPU and chassis fans which use the motherboards fan headers are running at full power. I've tried leaving it like this for 10-15 minutes.

I've tried clearing CMOS before and after flashing the bios, I've tried booting it just with one stick of RAM and tried using a 5900X and 5700X3D. Using bios flashback, back to F36 or F37 makes the board boot again, but anything newer doesn't.

Any ideas what could be the cause? I'd like a newer bios because of the AGESA updates.

Maybe only thing I haven't tried is to flash the new bios using the bios flashback functionality on the board.

Was a CPU connected while flashing to F37? If not then reflash F37, then you should be able to flash F39 and then F40b

Yes, CPU was connected in all attempts.

One thing I didn't mention I also tried flashing back F36 then updating to F39 and F40. That doesn't work either. F36 to F37 works.

Try removing all peripherals, including SATA. Clear CMOS and Flash F37 again. Nevermind use F30 as that is the first BIOS to support 5700x3d.

Dual Bios is messing with you. You should use Gigabyte (at)bios @Bios to update the secondary Bios too.

So it seems like F40b, boots but only when the Graphics Card is out of the machine. As soon as it is in then it doesn't boot.

I'll try flashing back F37 and use the @Bios to flash

EDIT:

Tried flashing F40b from @Bios and it doesn't seem to make any difference. Machine won't boot as long as the graphics card is in it. I don't have another graphics card to try with, so not sure what to do here.

Borrowed a GT710 and flashed F40b. Works fine with that card. But not with my 3090. F37 runs fine with the 3090. Not sure what is going on. Don't have enough space to try the 3090 in a different slot.

When it booted into F40b also looked like they added PBO options, which don't seem available on F37. Bummer.
