Now would be a good time to upgrade? (August 2024)

Budget (including currency):

  • CPU (priority): Around PHP10,000 (~$172.82 USD) - I'm aiming towards Ryzen 7 5700x (BNEW one here costs PHP9,950 on average ($171.96 USD))
  • GPU (priority): No more than PHP20,000 (~$345 USD) - I'm aiming towards AMD ASUS ROG STRIX RX6700XT O12G 3FAN (2nd hand/used)
  • RAM (optional): Around PHP3,500-4,500 (~$60.49-$77.77) - I have a half-baked plan to upgrade to a 4x8  or 2x16 config, I'm buying 2nd hand for this one.

Country: Philippines

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

  • GAMES: Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, Dead Space (2023 Remake), Dying Light 2, The Quarry, or Games to be release for the next 2-3 years.
  • WORKLOADS: Vegas Pro 21, Adobe Photoshop, Android Studio, Virtual Machine, OBS Livestream

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

My initial plans for upgrading earlier this year has been delayed because of some unforeseen expenses and transition in-between jobs. Just wanna make sure that I'm buying at the right time. I'm keeping on a lookout for the new Ryzen 9th gen to come out, looking back now, does it still makes sense for me to pursue this upgrade plan? My goal is to make my PC to be almost equivalent as powerful as a PS5 that will serve me well in the gaming department for a couple of years. I'll hold off to the old AM4 socket (meaning my current board and RAM a bit longer)

  1. CPU
    • CURRENT CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700
    • UPGRADING TO: AMD Ryzen 7 5700x
  2. GPU
    • CURRENT GPU: AMD RX580 8gb 256-Bit GDDR5 Asus Strix OC Edition
    • UPGRADING TO:  Asus Strix 12gb GDDR6 RX 6700 XT

CURRENT OVERALL SPECS:

  • CPU -- AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (AM4) - Original CPU since the PC was built back in late 2017.
  • Motherboard -- Gigabyte GA-B450 Aorus Pro WiFi (BIOS: 60h - 04/FEB/2021, ryzen 5000 series ready!) (2nd motherboard, upgraded from 2020)
  • RAM -- G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3000mhz 2x8gb DDR4 Black HS, CL16 1.35v, pn: F4 3000C16D (2nd RAM, upgraded last October 2018)
  • GPU -- AMD RX580 8gb 256-Bit GDDR5 Asus Strix OC Edition 3 FAN Full RGB (Asus Aura) (2nd GPU since October 2018)
  • PSU -- Seasonic M12II-620 EVO 620W 80+ Bronze FULLY MODULAR (Original PSU)
  • MONITOR -- Asus TUF Gaming VG27VQM Curved VA Monitor 240hz 1ms (RECENTLY BOUGHT last July);  Dell U2412M IPS 60hz Monitor
  • Cooling -- NZXT Kraken Z63

GOAL: To have a more smoother gameplay with newer games and also to maximize the potential of my high FPS monitor. I'm still contented with 1080p gaming. Looking for a best-bang-for-your-buck upgrade as possible. Also, to utilize my high refresh rate monitor. I also want to be able to play newer titles like Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077 (comfortably), maybe GTA 6? I'm trying to push for a nearly identical specs equivalent to a PS5 as budget goes.

Should I wait to upgrade or now would be a good time to upgrade? Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.

Thank you.

Since you have a high refresh monitor, I strongly recommend a Ryzen 7 5700X3D. Just make sure to use the latest Bios first.

As for the GPU, the 6700XT is a fine option. So is a 6750XT. A 6700 10GB is the closest to a PS5 GPU.
