Why are desks sold online so tall?

Joduko

I'm looking for a desk with more surface area, but I'm searching online and all the desks are way too tall like 28-30 inches off the floor. My current setup I've fine-tuned to be ergonomic, the chair isn't height adjustable and the keyboard drawer is at 24 inches off the floor.

Even the height adjustable desks only seem to advertise going as low as ~27 inches. All of these desks I'm seeing are useless to me unless I screw into them an aftermarket keyboard drawer. What am I missing here? How are people using these things without suffering nerve damage?

I suppose I could buy one of these cheap desks and saw the legs off evenly...

That's extremely short. How tall are you? What type of chair are you currently using? I would say the average desk height is around 28", as you have found.

That's super short. I think mine is 30" tall and I wish it were a little taller.

You picked an odd chair to use for a computer chair. That's more of a waiting room chair. Likely part of the issue.

It;'s not desks online, it's desks.  Anywhere.  They are all a minimum height, it's your chair.

I don't think the chair has anything to do with it. It's just an ordinary office chair, only with traditional legs.

My posture right now looks roughly like this where my keyboard/mouse are practically in my lap how they're supposed to be and my feet flat on the floor. If I got a 28-30" desk I'd be reaching up to chest height like this.

Get a proper office chair, that should help 🙂

I am using this chair from Ikea with a 28'' desk without any issues. I am 5'7''

Maybe you have odd body dimensions. With the 30" desk, I'm in the exact position of the first photo. I'm 5'8.

The chair DOES have something to do with it. If it is like the chair that you linked, the seat is 19" high. Most office chairs range from 19 with the seat dropped as low as it can go to 6" higher. If you average that people sit with their chair in the middle of the piston range, that puts the average chair seat 23" high. Right near where the desks online sit.

What, I though you were a gnome or something. 75cm/30" or so is like a standard as it fits most people. You adapt your chair height so like photo above. Knees, hips, elbows around 90 degree, striaght eyesight toward display. You should not sit low as in sports car on a floor. Need proper posture and decent chair. Don't be shrimpin'.

There must be a math error somewhere here. I just checked the height on my office chair, apparently my buff is around ~51cm above the ground (ca. 20 inches). That is the same as that chair you linked claims.

My height adjustable desk goes down to ~65cm aka 25-26 inches, and neither can I reach the keyboard on the desk without hunching over, I can't even fit my legs under the table anymore. There is maybe ~10cm of space between the lower part of the desk and the top of the chair.

I would double-check your dimensions.
