MSI Pro Z690 DDR4 Wi-Fi black screen with vga light

Gavin92

I hope someone can help me with a problem as old as time and endured by many.

Mobo - Msi pro Z690 A DDR4 Wi-Fi
CPU - Intel I5 12600k
Gpu - Zotac 3060ti
SSD - Samsung SSD980 TB
Psu - Corsair Rm 750
Ram - Kingston Fury 3600 DDR4

I am at a total loss what to do next with my rig. Built it about two years ago and it had ran like a dream. I Was gaming on Friday night and everything was great, turned my pc off and ever since then It’s never displayed a picture again. To start with I was getting the white vga light on and a black display with 1 white dash. Went and downloaded the newest beta version for the bios, flashed it with the bios button, it flashed a red light for about 6 minutes went through the flash process and turned off. Now all I’m getting is a completely black screen and a white vga light. When I power on My monitor it switches on from standby and the hdmi logo is in the top left of the screen so my monitor detects it but the screen is completely black. I cannot get any video out of either the gpu or the mobo display ports or hdmi ports.

I took my pc and stripped every component out of the case, cleaned every piece, reapplied new thermal paste re plugged in every connector to make sure it was all seated correctly flashed the bios again with an older version but still nothing. No matter how many times I pushed delete or F1 or F2 or f11 I cannot get a picture to access bios.

I’ve tried resetting the cmos about 100 times by removing the battery and also shorting the jumper pins. I’ve removed every component 1 by 1 in every order possible and tried every combination but still the same result. I’ve powered it off and on more times than I can count.

I’ve tried plugging the gpu into other slots and nothing changed. I also unplugged the power cable going to the gpu but left it plugged into the mobo which made the led on the gpu power up but the fans never spun. When I plugged the power cable back in and switched it back on the fans on the gpu both spun up. All other fans and leds light up but for the life of me I can’t remember if any led lights should light up on the mobo so don’t even know if the mobo has power. I really don’t know what to do next as everyone who seems to get this problem fixes it with a bios update. Please any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated

What cooler are you using? An uncommon boot issue is if there's some kind of uneven mounting or too much/too little pressure and since these boards/sockets can bend over time, there's a small possibility of a problem there. Something that can help as a test is to run the PC in a different orientation. Risers can also fail.

What spare parts do you have available (if any)?

Do you have an alternative monitor?

If you can't get anything out of either the onboard, or the graphics card, then I'd assume the graphics card is not the problem.

Arctic liquid freezer 2 is the cooler that he is using. The pc was build around 2 years ago if i am correct and has worked flawlessly and wouldnt turn on. I have managed to test ram, gpu, m.2 ssd all working perfect unable to test cpu or motherboard because my system is amd. Since i put the post up i have found out that the pc was being power off by holding the power button or straight turning it off at the wall 😑. I was thinking its probably psu or motherboard. Poor pc been abused.
